LCPS: Tolbert ES, Harper Park MS and Heritage HS

I've been looking to move to Loudoun County - route 7 corridor. Can anyone please shed some light on this LCPS pyramid? Greatschools ratings seem to be dropping year after year.

I would stick to Riverside or Stone Bridge HS.

Harper Park middle school has its own section of kids taking algebra 2/trig. This is unusual in LCPS, which might have a few kids taking this class at a high school. The only other school I've seen have this is Stone Hill.

GS ratings are worthless.

Harper Park recently got a new principal. She may be clinically insane.

No complaints from us about Tolbert or Heritage.

Irrelevant since LCPS has changed the math tracking and it’s almost impossible to take 6th grade Algebra. 5th graders have to test in to even be allowed to take 6th grade PRE Algebra now.

I'm pretty sure that Harper Park is one of a few Loudoun middle schools that, for whatever reason, has chosen not to offer separate honors classes. Instead honors and regular (i.e. "academic") classes are combined together into "blended" classes. This model is different from other Loudoun middle schools, which offer distinct honors vs. academic options for many subjects at every grade level.

The point is that the math at Harper Park was good enough that they had this many kids qualify for Algebra 2/Trig when it was possible.

Anyone who gets 90% on that prealgebra test(mock SOL 7) is given the option of taking a test to get into Algebra, IAAT,
