NCAA-approved classes and homeschooling

Anonymous
We have decided to homeschool for 8th grade for various reasons. One of my kids is an athlete in a non-school based individual sport where she has a chance of being recruited when she gets older, so NCAA core courses are an issue. For 8th grade, that mostly means math (Geometry) and a language.

I have been looking at the NCAA homeschool tool kit, and it looks like the NCAA counts it as homeschooling where the parent designs and teaches the curriculum and awards the grade. For anything external, such as an online class, it is a non-traditional class and the provider must be NCAA approved.

Does anyone know how classes at Compass Homeschool would count? Their classes look so good, and it would help us balance the need for flexibility and some socializing outside her sport.

I am aware of online schools for athletes, such as U.S. Performance Academy and Mizzou Academy, but would prefer something that is not all online.

Thanks in advance!

OP here - If anyone finds this while searching for similar information, the Well Trained Mind forum has a ton of information on homeschooling and NCAA requirements.

Many threads, but here is a good one.

It isn't that hard to get a course NCAA approved. I teach AP courses for homeschoolers and have done the paperwork 3-4 times. Just pursue the education that you want and find teachers willing to fill it out. Their class should be more traditional, though, and use a mainstream textbook.

There is also a Facebook group for homeschooling families using NCAA.

I have a middle schooler taking some high school classes, so I looked into it, and essentially you only need a certain number of years of classes. So, for example, you need 3 years of math. Since I couldn't imagine my kid wouldn't take at least 3 more years of math after 8th grade, I didn't worry too much.

Question:

My son's school does not have Topics in Geometry on the list of approved courses for the NCAA. Can an individual provide the NCCA with an overview of the course and ask them to decide if the course is approved or not?
