Dartmouth for engineering

They seem to have an interesting program in which students stay for a 5th year in order to complete the ABET certified engineering degree.
This allows students to take other courses they are interested in and receive a more well rounded liberal arts education
I find this very appealing. Anyone with first hand experience ? TIA!

This is actually an old model. My grandfather did it back in the 1930s at another college.

I like this model. I should have noted that the fifth year is not required. Students can do it in four but it seems like many prefer the five year option

It is also why they are able to offer the 2-1-1-1 program for students from top SLACs. Anyone know a student who did this ? My DC is considering it from Bowdoin

I think this approach makes a lot of sense

Didn't Dartmouth just build a new engineering building?

I agree the 5-year program sounds very appealing but no direct knowledge of it. I only know of an acquaintance's kid who applied to the engineering program but was unfortunately rejected.
