Question about the White House Corespondents Dinner and parties

I am a social worker and not originally from the states so pardon my ignorance. I just read an article in Washingtonian about all the parties this weekend and was wondering how this all works. Do people have to bring physical invitations? Do you just show up? I was surprised they published all the addresses! It seems like there must be a lot of security everywhere. How does one normally get invited if they don’t work for the press (or do they not?)

| I think all of the WHCA members get to invite a guest. That’s how the non-DC actual celebrities (said with love by a DC native) end up there. And yes, security galore. |
