Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae - Which is better to work for?

Anonymous
Mainly better job security (and in which fields) and benefits.

Fannie Mae is based out of D.C. which means its employees get 3 months of paid parental leave. Freddie Mac is based in Fairfax which means like all VA residents they get diddly squat.

So if leave to care for a sick family member or new baby is important to you - there's that.

I worked at both. I’d say Fannie is the better one to work for. Not to mention, you have more options at Fannie, especially with benefits and office locations.

For both companies, if you’re in one department, don’t expect to be there forever. They constantly reorg. So beware of that.

Fannie Mae = Layoff Friday!

Know several folks that work at FM. They said Fridays are notorious or layoffs.

I am PP. i can definitely confirm that. I am a victim of that.

I worked at both. Fannie pays more and is super dysfunctional. Lots of nepotism, which leads to management being horrible because they aren’t qualified but have a connection. If you are a good worker with ethics, prob not the place for you. If you are too high in the pay range, you’ll never get a raise. I went 3 years without one. Bonuses are good.

Freddie has a better culture, more laid back. Both places will be hit hard with the rates rising and volumes evening out or decreasing. They’ll never get out of conservatorship.

I used to work at Fannie Mae. If I ever went back (not likely), it would only be to a front office job. Not anything in the middle or back office, IT seems particularly prone to layoffs. There’s lots of politics. The jobs do pay well and benefits were good when I was there, not sure if still the case.

Fannie pays well and has good benefits. Too much politics and no true work life balance once you make Director (always on).

Freddie pays worse and they seem stuck in 1995 in terms of management. Fannie is the more progressive company but you can expect to be reorged and laid off at any moment.

Common Securitization Solutions owned by Fannie and Freddie is the third one to work at.

Tony Renzi the CEO of CSS is a nut who fires left and right out of blue with no cause. Other than that pays well.

I used to work with him. That guy is insane. He’s only their ceo because he’s part of that banking clique.

I worked for him to. Long stories out he was in a Rock Band and his beach house in NJ and how he barely can use a computer. Reputation of no strategic vision and very very quick to fire and walk you out the door. I felt like a temp worker working for him. I was paid well, head of a dept. but anyone moment he can fire you. The Head of HR, Legal, COO all average age of 61-66 just lets it happen. Can get a great review and Tony could can you next day.

I worked for CSS for 2.5 years, very horrible place to work and I agree Tony is a crazy guy. The HR dept is worse.
