Handmaid’s Tale season 4

I’m loving this season so far. It’s not perfect and they’re many leaps of faith but it’s better than pretty much anything on TV now.

I agree with this. It’s beautiful to watch.

Elisabeth Moss looks like she gained weight. I guess the “covid 19 pounds” hits everyone.

idk she's never been skinny. She was mostly covered up but when she was strapped on the table she looked the same to me.

I think they padded her Martha clothes to emphasize that she is tired and aging and wounded/scarred.

Her stomach looked huge to me when she was on that table! NP here she was thin in season one when she got dressed up and went to Jezebels. She’s definitely gained weight.

Seriously? You watched a gruesome torture sequence and your takeaway is “Elisabeth Moss has put on weight.” Diet culture is the internalized sexism we perpetuate in real life. Well done. Under his eye.

Really? I think it’s so so. When they escaped the van at the end of episode 3, it was more of the same. The only think I thought was interesting was that Serena is pregnant.

I feel like 90% of the show at this point is slow motion and moody lighting. Perhaps it was always like this but it feels like it takes soooo long for things to happen. So many beautiful shots. So little plot.

I think I’m noticing it more because they keep reusing the same plot devices - June pulls off epic revenge plan; June is captured, tortured, and escapes. When my mind isn’t engaged in the plot as much, I’m thinking things like “Huh, this is another uncomfortable closeup. Is that snot droplet from her nose going to drop or just linger?”

Ugh, agree with these posters, and I resent it because this show could be brilliant. Gah.

Totally agree that this show has always depended to much on the moody closeup and swelling music to cover repetitive and illogical plots.

Its interesting because I thought that the problem was with women bearing children and thats why the Handmaids were important but its looks like Commander Waterford is the problem. This will upset the reasoning behind Gilead. I havent read the books but maybe this makes Serena turn against Gilead.

I think it is mostly the men who are sterile, but they blame the women. Remember June going to the Doctor and him telling her he could help her conceive and did it for many other Handmaid's? I suspect a lot (not all, but a lot) of the Handmaid's become pregnant by someone other than their Commanders.

Serena being pregnant is a big departure from the book (as was the casting), since in the book Serena was well passed child-bearing age. Like mid-50s or older.

I don’t get where they were at the end? Sleeping in a gymnasium reading lips? What’s that about?

It was a flashback to their early days together at the handmaids training center.
