Why do people hate Disney?

Seems like you can’t. Calling people who go intellectually impoverished? Saying it’s “shocking” to see adults there? Seems like you can’t drag yourself away from hating on it.
I’m not one of the haters. I love Disney. It’s the constant bickering on this board that baffles me. Some people like it, and that’s OK. Some people don’t, and that’s OK too!

I get that people who loved Disney as kids have amazing associations, but I don't have those, and I just imagine having to handle my kid melting down every 10 minutes in the blazing sun.

Well, my kid doesn’t melt down every 10 minutes. Maybe yours has a short temper?

The food is much better than Panda Express.

If you haven’t been, then maybe don’t judge.

I'm answering the prompt, it's not a personal attack on your taste. If the thread was "why do you love disney," I wouldn't post because I would have nothing relevant to share.

Except this entire thread has been an attack on people who like Disney.

IF it feels like an attack on you, maybe don't read a thread called "why do people hate disney?"

I don't think anyone said it was "shocking" to see adults there. But adults without children...I do question their taste level. And no, I don't believe that all of them are trekking through the Sarawak jungle, sailing down the Nile, or glamping on a remote South American island on their other vacations.

Someone literally said people who go to Disney are intellectually impoverished. That is quite the attack.

Ok, fine — they said that going to Universal and seeing the adults in Harry Potter garb is shocking.

As it happens, I think that anyone who glamps has questionable taste level, but to each their own.

My kids love it though, and I love seeing how happy being there makes them so we go. Each of my kids will go around 3 times before high school. What really gets me are the people who love Disney so much they don’t travel anywhere else but think people who take their kids abroad are crazy or “fancy.” What is this? Unfamiliarity? You can have a truly spectacular week-long trip to Europe for far less $ than a week at Disney costs.

Oh yeah, Jiko, Tiffins, and Victoria and Albert’s are so mediocre.

3 restaurants! Yes, Tiffins is as good as it gets at Disney, but you think it’s better than North African food you can get in any major US city or really most French cities/towns? Geez.

Or most of Europe, right?

I think it must be the people who don't have the money to travel elsewhere as well. If Disney is your one big vacation of the year, I wouldn't want to go either. If you are doing that as well as a ski trip, a trip to the Caribbean to escape winter for a week, a national park trip or beach trip, and a trip to Europe (which is what our travel schedule for the year would like) then it's just one fun week among many others.

I have money to travel wherever I want, but I can't take time away from work to do that many trips, so Disney is not in my consideration set. If you like it and have the time to go, fine. I don't find it to be fun, but if others do, good on them.

same difference then. The point stands, if you only get 3 weeks to travel, then yeah Disney wouldn't b e high on my list either. If it's 5-6 weeks because you're in a senior role, then it's a different equation.

Did I say that? No. I said it was good food. And clearly there are more than 3 good restaurants at Disney: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/

Filter it by “fine/signature dining” and you’ll find way more than 3 places.

Also, "tiffin" refers to Indian food, so the fact that they're serving North African food is just idiotic.

Yup. DH is an executive and I get ample leave on my job, so we can take plenty of trips. If we did Disney for a week, we’d also do Europe for 2 weeks and a weeklong trip to see family.

People getting riled up at the Disney haters, just remember one thing. Those saying Disney is low class and beneath them, spend all day on DCUM telling everybody what a proper vacation is don't strike me as uber-sophisticated. Their keystrokes don't lie. Just becuase you don't like Disney and have been to Europe a couple times, doesn't give you class. I don't love Disney, but if I'm going to ever get shallow and cast judgement, it will be on the internet trolls and not those that enjoy a theme park.

It’s an Indian/African fusion restaurant, you dolt.
