Freaking Girl Scout Camp

My DD got into her first choice. Which is an improvement over the first sign up because although I was able to get a confirmation, it was her third program choice. So this worked out better for us.

Regarding the IT portion, GSCNC put off switching to the myGS Events as long as they could. It's GSUSA that forced them off ebiz and onto this platform. There was just another myGS Events meltdown over leaders trying to sign up for camping training last week. The platform sucks more than ebiz and I hated ebiz.

Just got our results and both my kids are in at May Flather. Their first choice was Potomac Woods, but they each got their second choice options. Glad for the placements, sorry for the scouts who did not get placed and I hope they are able to find something when all the dust settles from deposits being paid or declined.

Some of the most vocal complainers in the facebook group are starting to tell on themselves--it's all about having an inexpensive camp.

I Hope all of you parents and your girls remember this in the future - because they are short staffed. Your girls CAN go back to camp - as counselors in the future.

Well, I just got our email that my kid got in, and for the space she was originally "in" when the snafu happened. She'll be delighted and now I officially have to plan the rest of the summer as this was the one piece that needed to get in place before the rest could.

Same here. We were in during original go. Girls who went through this should have been give preferred placement. Brokenhearted twice sucks.

Just do what PP mentioned and go to one in PA? The scout camp I went to in NC is way nicer than Winona or PW and cheaper [and has horses, a major draw for her]. My gal is heading there this summer instead.

+1. Camp registration in the DC area sucks in general, it's not just Girl Scout camp (though the registration fiasco was a special brand of absurdity). My DD is going to zoo camp, Girl Scout camp, and language camp near her grandparents because they're all cheaper and less competitive to get it. Then other more generic camps in DC for the rest of the summer. If you don't have the ability to relocate for a few weeks for the specialty camps, Girl Scout camp is the best to do out of the area because it's residential and just one drop off and pickup. It TOTALLY sucks, but it's a DC area issue, not a national Girl Scout issue.

+2 The women whining on the PW facebook group is not a good look.

It's not whining. People are understandably frustrated with this whole process. Just because you got what you and your kid wanted doesn't mean that others are whining.

They are very reasonably priced. My DD’s program is $525 for a week. They also very outdoor focused and old school. Girls sleep in Glen shelters, use BFFYs, have campfires, no electronics, etc.

My kid is as special as yours. The way this whole thing has been handled is unprofessional and chaotic. The largest GS Council in the US mucks it up again.

FWIW, I offered five different weeks. We were not picky.

As special. Not more special. And very lucky to have a parent who was able to register for her for five years at 10 am on a Tuesday.
