"My salary is $500k. Is that not typical? I guess I just assumed it was." <-- none of this.

No one has actually said that. Why get defensive about it ahead of time? The one or two high income folks here simply answered the question ask, just as folks with more modest incomes did.

I guess those who make around $60000 just don't post. So the "average" you see here is for the average bragging rights amount. If you are below average, I guess you get flamed in DCUM.

God willing I'm back in private practice and over 200k or ideally 250k soon.

If you are at 177k, you must be a financial regulator, or maybe SES. If the former, you should be able to get to $200k in not too many more years. You won't make it to 250k unless you are very senior, but you can get close with a promotion or two.

Wow, you can get to $200k-$250k as a govt lawyer? Or am I misunderstanding and that's the private practice rate?

Off topic - but I definitely know lawyers at the SEC, FDIC that are at 200k+. IDK if anyone is at 250k+ -- maybe they are by now but IDK how promotions/raises work when salaries get beyond 200k.

Are these SES pay scale then? The lawyers I know in my agency and outside my agency are on the GS pay scale.

How so? It is cash transactions and not traceable. How would the government know?

the financial regulators and the like (SEC, FDIC, CFPB, CFTC, OCC, OFR, FRB) are on their own non-GS payscales. i make 200k in IT at one of them.

The fact that PP hasn't been caught, and may be unlikely to be caught, doesn't mean it's not tax fraud.
