Ward 3 Vision's new agenda includes pushing changes to the DC Comprehensive Plan to enable the so-called "missing middle."

If you look at how Cleveland Park developed, there are high rises on the avenue and then the garden apartments, which are pretty high density despite being just 3 stories, and then it tapers to the single family homes. All of our metro neighborhoods should be like this. Thank you for sharing.

Most of Cleveland Park's streets are single family homes. Their historic district likely would offer some protection if Ward 3 Vision gets its way. In Tenleytown, AU Park, Chevy Chase DC, which don't have an historic district or only have a very small one, it will become open season on tear-downs for denser development.

One thing that really turned me off about the post is the Ward 3 Vision spokesperson boasting about experience fighting against neighbors. That approach is sad to alarming, and suggests that Vision is just a shill for big $ development.

Except there are a lot of us who understand that if we want to continue to grow as a city and have affordable housing, then something has to give. You cannot encase every neighborhood in glass and say "no more" and expect the economy to grow without it getting even more expensive than it already is. One doesn't need to be part of Ward 3 Vision to understand and support that point of view.

It is myopic to think that is shilling for developers. Affordable housing advocates, transit advocates and environmental advocates all share the same view.

That developers are the conduits to take areas like the 5220 site and turn it into something more productive doesn't make them bad guys. Someone built your house, and before that, it was likely trees. Are they bad guys for having built that house, or are you a bad guy for living there now?

In fact, that's exactly what they are proposing, through the Comprehensive Plan amendments. They would effectively expand the higher density commercial and mixed-use zones from currently .about one block of either side of the existing arterial corridors to several blocks into existing single family neighborhoods.

So someone from Ward 3 Vision suggested that someone local get involved in something in their neighborhood and somehow that is a grand conspiracy? I mean the email specifically suggests that someone local be the lead in advocating for something local - I'm really struggling to grasp the problem here? Is what this person suggested any different than what the folks trying to get Johnson's reopened are doing?
