I posted this before: I have lived in an affluent area with a family homeless shelter very close by schools and where we lived. Yes, agreed, no issues. But, if this is a male only shelter, then no, I wouldn't be ok with it at all.

If you're referring to the one in the courthouse area that's different. One there is right next to a police station so there's protective measures in place. Fairfax County already said they will not be putting police officers here for this. So instead of police officers we have elderly people and children. That doesn't sound safe and all

Men and women, across from a liquor store in an highly residential area, very few commercial entities. Also, traffic is already horrendous in this intersection.

BTW, the area I lived in (out of state) where this was has a an average home value of $1.2mil+. There are no homes for $750K or under in that area.

The neighborhood with the 1.2 to $2 million homes is literally across the main road from us. It also goes to show your ignorance of the area as sometimes there's a wide disparity in the prices of homes in different neighborhoods. Most out From out-of-state are not aware of this fact.

Sorry but even if you measure from the very tip of the property, which is blocked by a large black fence, the distance to 4710 North Chambliss Street, Alexandria is 1.0 miles. The distance to an actual entrance is even farther. It's a straight shot down Lincolnia, so there is really nothing to dispute.

But lets just say you are right, homeless shelters have a curfew and typically the guests can't come and go as they please throughout the night, so based on your judgment of the homeless isn't it better to have them be inside a shelter safely away from the kids and elderly?

BTW if your kid goes to a "very good Catholic school" there is a pretty good chance there is at least one homeless child there on scholarship. Speaking of your daughter being in Catholic school I am pretty sure they are not teachering her to be judgmental and sickened by the less fortunate. Maybe you should go to school with your daughter tomorrow.

I have an idea, let's move it to your neighborhood right next to the school and see how you feel. I think that's a great idea. There's no screening these people to see if they're mentally unstable which a lot are. This is a safety issue and as other have noted it brings crime

I live in courthouse, there is homeless shelter by the metro about 1/2 mile from where I live and 3 or 4 blocks from the elementary school. I am fine with it.

Clarendon is densely commercial. I think that's ideal for a homeless shelter. No issue there so long as it isn't next to a school library or senior center.

There is an elementary school at 2300 Key Blvd. It is absolutely within quick walking distance to Clarendon as is the shelter already in Courthouse that is 3 blocks away. Stop trying to find a new home. A homeless shelter is not going to be the downfall of a neighborhood even if it is next to a school.

Clarendon is city, Lincolnia is more suburbs. Two elementary schools, senior citizens home and two pre-schools. It's danger close

Make up your mind. Is it that you don't think shelters should be near schools or it is that you don't think they should be near your schools in your suburb.

The shelter in Arlington is at a busy location right next to a police station. FFX already said they will not commit a police officer to the area. To boot, a police captain came out to the meeting at the hearing and said "yeah, crime is going to go up." It did around the current shelter.

To boot, this is an area that is highly resdenitial where everyone is at work during the day. Most burglaries happen during the day. They'll be kicking this people out of the shelter at 930 in the morning and they have no where to go. They'll be loitering around resdenitial areas and schools. I the current shelter they sit outside and panhandle.

I think they should out it next to the FFX police station down the road. It Has plenty of space

And it's next to a senior citizens home. They'll be undefended. Let's be honest, a good population of homeless are addicts. It's funny the Arlington people are saying it's okay, the original proposal was to put in Ina building on the Arlington/Fairfax border and Arlington residence were the ones who came out in full force to protest against the location

And since I am a Catholic, I have no problem saying that we have an obligation to the poor and I am unafraid of my children being within a half mile of them. In fact my children are less than a half mile from homeless people all the time.
