Apparently I am not the only one who found this announcement to be confusing. I was in a crowd of parents trying to drop off our children at a government day care this morning at 10 AM and we were quite dismayed to learn that they didn't open until noon.
It is RAINING out, people. And not even that hard. UGGGHHHH |
| Metro failed to run more trains , metro is as inept. |
It wasn't confusing at all. It was crystal clear. Do not get on the roads until after 10:00am. If OPM is advising government workers to remain at home until 10:00am, how in the world could a government employee arrive at work before 10:00am to open the doors for your child. The OPM website additionally stated that all government business would open at 12:00 noon. Now, ask yourself, is the government day care a government run business that would open at noon? |
| Most fed childcare centers are run by outside organizations. For people who live close by, they leave home at 10 as directed get to work at 10:15 ready to drop child and report as instructed. I would expect Bright Horizons or who ever runs the center to accommodate that. They are not federal employees. Aside from the fact that they use federal space, that is no different then any other center. |
I was in my office at 5:58AM. My office was open. |
Our BH federal location very specifically tells the family that they follow the OPM guidelines for the facility where they are located. They also sent out emails to alert us. In fact, last night, the notice I got from the daycare was the first I had heard about the delay. They informed us that the federal offices were closed to the public until noon, that federal employees were asked to stay off the roads before 10am and that the center would open at 11am. Since my wife works in that building and was told to report at noon, we arrived around 11:45, dropped the kids off and she walked to her office. Yes, I had to take 3 hours of leave this morning (we all carpool together) because my contractor office was open with regular hours. Oh well. That's life. |
Was your office open to the public at 5:58AM. NO. |
No, but it's a secure building and never open to the public. I'm not sure why there was so much confusion. If it's a public building it was open to the public at noon. Most restricted buildings are open all of the time. If you wanted to come in late you had admin leave from the time you normally come in until 10am. |
| If I'm supposed to be at work by noon, then how can I drop my child off at noon and make it to work on time? |
