What about Tuesday?

They're busy trying to craft language that justifies an opening tomorrow that doesn't entirely contradict their strong closure language of yesterday.

It's tough to move goalposts! They should take a leaf out of the White House's book and just own their contradictions

I don’t think that’s that tough, if it’s what is happening. Just cite progress. I have certainly seen some.

They're going to cite progress, you are correct, regardless of how minuscule it is. Which personally, walking my dog every day across several neighborhoods of Bethesda, I have NOT seen today. They should have opened on Monday. The school bus stops around me are never going to be shoveled. The snowbanks blocking pedestrian crossings are never going to be cleared. Just like after every snowstorm we've ever had had since we moved here in 15 years ago. I know full well the county never clears anything beyond the actual roadways, and MCPS never clears anything beyond their own school properties.

Oh goody. Will they blame the people of MoCo for not shoveling adequately again? Because it's obvious that no school district anywhere can open if there's ice on a single sidewalk.

Somewhere an intern is sweating. My teen daughter said she was up for that gaslighting writing job. She thinks it's hilarious.

Based on what?

Yes the blame shifting did not escape me in yesterday's message. Way to get the parents on your side, MCPS-

Fingers crossed. The people I know at DCPS said parents there were furious that there was even a 2 hour delay today since the storm ended a week ago. They've been back since Wednesday (virtual) and Thursday (in-person).

No news at 4pm means high chance to be opened tomorrow tuesday?

I actually think it means this wasn’t straightforward.

What signs are those? I’d be surprised if there isn’t a delay.

When will they make an announcement?

Agree, I think it means they are either struggling or waiting a bit longer to see whether or to what degree things have improved. If they knew what they were gonna do, I think they would announce it. That seems to make starting on time pretty unlikely.

Because there's been no significant progress - as if there could be in 24hrs! - and they're having trouble coming up with language to appease everyone. If they stick to their stated rationale, they have to stay closed. But they now understand that every other schools district will open tomorrow and MoCo parents will be livid if MCPS is the only system left. So they're feeling immense pressure to open, and thus have to move the goalposts.

There could have been lots of progress in 24 hours if plows were out. But they weren’t so there was none
