Will they be offering VERA next year??? I'm ready to get off this crazy train.

I say make it Monday so their Maids and Butlers can get their McLean and Potomac Mansions fully stocked and ready for their return.

+1. Will all the Republicans even be back in time to vote today?

Don't worry. He'll sign it at 11:59 pm on Wed.

I have a clean conscience. Flame away, I don’t GAF. the new social contract of the DOGE era is pretty clear. I know I will have Trump favored industry breathing down my neck to get unfair prioritization and I have zero compunction about getting to work at 10:30am the first day after furlough.

It's not your 90 minutes. It's your not caring or taking a moment to appreciate what the compromises that led to your being able to go in to serve the public and get all your money cost others.

+1. This is EXACTLY why feds have a horrible reputation and why, many, like me (not MAGA but served in two agencies), want to see a reduction in workforce and waste.

If you actually served in 2 agencies, then you'd know that most people aren't like this. Stop with the bs.

If the business day has not begun yet on Thursday when Trump signs, wouldn’t Thursday be the first business day after the lapse ends?

No. The day the lapse ends is day zero. It doesn’t matter when it ends (ie, 12:01 am or 11:59pm); that entire calendar day is day zero. We’ve been told to report on day zero +1.

If we are measuring by business days though maybe we should consider actual business hours as well. So if the lapse ends at 10pm we have a full business day before we have to report.

lapse ended- 10pm - day 1
Full business day - day 2
Report beginning of business day - day 3

What makes shutdowns different is that you will eventually get back pay, but it was far from obvious this time that it would happen for the people who weren't working.

Everyone? What other jobs make you work for weeks without pay? Not teachers, medical staff, delivery drivers, cashier's, restaurants, pilots, insurance, etc.

The Dems could have at least negotiated a better pay raise in this deal. Now we just get to not be RIFed before Jan 30 and we’re supposed to be happy about that.

I don’t think we are supposed to be happy about this. But I also don’t think we should be upset that we have to report to work Thursday, even with the bill (presumably) being passed Wednesday night.

This isn’t how it works. I mean, I wish! But in 2013, Obama signed the bill to end the shutdown after midnight, and we were required to report to work that day. I remember getting my ‘back to work today’ text at 4:14 am.

The issues that you raise are completely distinct from anything in the post you responded to.
