Thanks for the suggestion. It was great!😍 |
In Arlington, questioning of government or school programs or policies or use of taxpayer funds results in being called human garbage (or worse). |
A program that feeds people when the POS POTUS has cut off SNAP benefits? Yes. Total garbage. |
If the fed govt would pay what it should then we wouldn't have to spend money on this. so complain to your orange president. |
| Is anyone showing up for these dinners? |
I hope so. We don’t need the help at this time so we wouldn’t go - wouldn’t want to take food out of a hungry family’s mouths. At the same time, it definitely has a soup kitchen vibe if it’s just people down on their luck. There needs to be some “community” aspect for this to be most effective. |
DD said the cafeteria at her HS school was empty Monday night at 6pm, but maybe people come in later. She and her friends really wanted to grab dinner while there (they love school lunch) but they knew it wasn't for them and didn't. |
when our local govt is stepping up to put food in mouths so kids don't starve - which is what your president is doing to them - then yes. |
Tell her to go! We went occasionally to pick up lunches during the pandemic. We didn't need it financially but we did it because we're in a high income area so we wanted to keep participation up for those who did truly need it so they would keep the site open, to reduce stigma if more people go, and to keep that oh so tenuous connection to school during virtual learning. So I guess that last one was for community. |
| I wonder what they do with leftover food? Do any shelters accept cooked food? |

Here's a story on the first day. They were ready for 250 meals st each HS.
No articles I could find on numbers showing up. https://wamu.org/story/25/11/07/in-photos-arlington-high-schools-feeding-families-during-the-government-shutdown/ |
| APS email on Friday said the meals will continue until Dec. 5 at W-L and Wakefield only. |
Why? |
