Government Shutdown and Finances , observation and effect on DMV area

Anonymous
The main effect will be the DMV moving to the right, both existing workers upset at the left, and many left-leaning people leaving the area being replaced by right-wing people. its' by design to balance the area to be more reflective of america 50/50, the DMV is way too left leaning like 30/70

We really are. It’s been tough all year though.

When it comes to restaurants and takeout, I feel many of them have had themselves to blame. I'm looking at you reastauants that hiked prices a ton during Covid and sneakily added "convenience" and "service" and "covid safety" fees and "offer me" the opportunity to tip for every single takeout trip where the lowest tip suggested is 22%. We eat out rarely now and I won't go back to places that do the things above.

We stopped going to many places we used to as portions are smaller, and I don't eat much and leave feeling hungry and prices are double, not including tax, tip and other fees. I will not tip on carry out or fast casual. I will not go somwhere with a service fee.

The furloughed ones are having a good time actually but also feeling guilty for having a good time.

That's because you only know the ones with money. Go talk to some low earning feds who are worried about making rent. JFC.

Right, I'm just talking about my experience with my friends who are feds. I'm sorry if it sounded like I was trying to describe everyone's experience. That wasn't my intention. I know there are lots of lower income feds but for whatever reason I don't think I personally know any. Most of my less well off friends are in education/childcare with me; the feds I know are mostly my children's friends' parents who do skew richer. I don't think I have any friends who are federal contractors either. My point was really more so that everyone is stressed for different reasons and the shutdown is having broader impacts even beyond the directly affected employees.
