MIT and Stanford are in different leagues. Run! |
I went to MIT. MIT grads are ideal staff, we are not leaders or CEOS. THINK CTO.
Duke has a more varied student and alumni population It will be more enjoyable, enhance social skills Being a superhero at Duke gets you into MIT grad school Being meh at MIT gets you an industry job you will do well but as a staff lifer. |
Any data out there on the percentage of MIT v. Duke grads who end up founding or running a company? Wikipedia alumni list for Duke does not seem to indicate a high number of CEOs. Where do the "meh" Duke students end up? |
Duke with $300K in the pocket. |
Middle management |
It's a small % from any school. |
CEOs are very rarely CS grads, especially beyond founders. |
That is a really weird question. If you asked that at an info session you would get laughed out of the room. And what a narrow perspective on life. Do you run a McDonald's or something. My quick glance at Wiki shows David Rubenstein, Adam Silver, CEO of McDonald's, Tim Cook (MBA), Bill Gross, John Mack, and countless more. Plus for better or worse, Duke focuses a lot on kids of the rich and powerful. I'm sure someone will criticize this, but many of them go on to do big things. Duke alums also tend to be universally considered the best to work with as they are more well-rounded and have better people skills than alums of peer skills. Which personally means a lot. But you be you. |
Great choice if you're in that group |
I went to Stuy and then MIT.
On DCUM, Stuy is “all Asian kids, immigrant grinders, can’t look you in the eye, can’t shake your hand, only cheaters and drones”. On DCUM, MIT is the best college in the world!! They were the same kids. Especially nowadays, they’re totally the same kids. I don’t get it. I loved MIT most days and loved Stuy most days. But I’d take Duke for free tyvm |
They are the same kids. Most private school parents would not want their children at MIT over Duke. |
+1 If OP’s kid is getting a full ride at Duke, he will be successful no matter what. And he can get a grad degree at MIT. |
Another one for the full ride here. The economy isn’t going to get better in the next year or two for that matter. Duke is an amazing opp for FREE.
Unless you are independently wealthy, OP. That’s another story and your kid pulled the lottery ticket for MIT. Then I’d say go for it at MIT. |
Thats not true. While most of Fortune 500 were econ or engineering majors there are a fair amount of CS grads. |
