Were Attendance Levels Status Quo Today?

My fourth grader said they didn’t start a new benchmark lesson but did learn something new in math.

My 3rd grader learned something new today and articulated it perfectly. But he’s AAP level 4.

Thank you! Glad teachers are moving ahead.

Glad your streets were plowed and you have flexibility at work or SAH to be able to take your kids to school on a weird last minute schedule. Ours are icy hills with piles of snow/ice and not passable by school buses. And I don't get paid time off or able to reschedule work meetings based on a last minute whim to reopen the schools on a Friday for a short day.

You have to make the decisions best for your family, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world stops until you're ready. The beat goes on.

You are being smug.
I am hardly an outlier in this. I wouldn't be posting if this was a one-off type of thing that happens when kids get sick, travel, etc. This is a problem affecting many people today, and some schools are affected more than others depending if they are in the plowed/unplowed areas and/or serve majority of plowed/unplowed neighborhoods. I am glad "the beat goes on" for you in whatever race you are running that you think is going to get you further than those who had to skip one half school day
So far you are succeeding in your smugness

You should probably log off DCUM since you are so busy with your job that doesn't off paid time off or the ability to reschedule anything. That must be hard to balance with all your anonymous posting.

Nothing at all was last minute. We learned about the 2-hour delay yesterday afternoon.

I had a heavy morning schedule, afternoon less than 24 hours notice is tough for many professions. You got your way and your kids out of the house, why post? Did your massage and Pilates get cancelled today or something?

This sounds like your fault to assume FCPS would be closed again. A 2 hour delay was an expected decision if you had been paying any attention. How do you manage actual life problems?

How do you manage to remain so pissed and keep responding to these threads that no longer have any relevance for you since you got what you wanted? Unlike those of us who wanted schools closed today you have zero to complain about, yet there you are. Are we raining on your smug parade?

So you wanted schools closed today because it's more convenient for you? Sounds like it's time to unschool or homeschool or podschool so you can make the schedule. I'm sorry Dr. Reid didn't think to ask you before making the decision for the other 179,857 kids in the county. The nerve!

Dr. Reid has lied about VDOT coordination with FCPS or was completely clueless. Majority of people already adjusted their schedules to the idea that schools will be out and not many expected it to reopen on the last day of the week. it was OPTICS, and there is nothing you can say or do to convince me otherwise.

"Majority of people" - where you getting that from? Most people did not think schools would remain out nor expected to open next week. You did. You need to get out of your echo chamber.

There would not be a 200+ posts snow day thread had this been an "echo chamber".

Hahahaha. Are you seriously citing to the length of a message board thread as your evidence. You’re too far gone

NP. My 3rd grader mainly mentioned they started on a water cycle group PBL project. He told me who is in the group, they're about halfway done and they're doing it in Canva.

They're at an immersion school so many kids are driven.

What bs. Your “kinder” has no concept of how many kids were out or even how many kids are in the class. Lol

They practice counting by counting the number of kids present each day. Then they break it down to addition and subtraction ie we have 22 students today, 3 students are out. 22+3=25 and 25-3=22.

My 3rd grader said they started Cursive today. I didn't realize they evern learned cursive anymore so we've been teaching it at home. Math was some multiplication review and kids complaining they thought the day would be off.

Hm well tell that to my 6th grader whose class had a visit from the middle school counselor talking about their elective options and selection process for next year. Anyone who skipped missed out. Oh well.

And this snow just shows how stupid the excessive school holidays are before January.

We get it you don't want to be around your kids.

Why does some insecure SAHM always post this? Like no, it’s not that we would like for our children to actually be in school for the first time in three weeks so that they can continue their education, it’s just that we don’t like them. That must be it!!

+1,000 Reid and the rest of the screaming parents clambering for schools to open are tone deaf

I think neighborhoods like yours are in the minority and I think FCPS should have granted excused absences for anyone who felt it was unsafe for their children to get to school today. That said, if it was just inconvenient to your schedule, that’s on you. SACC was open this morning.

What makes you think they didn’t? Reid’s email yesterday said as much.

So you’re disparaging 8 year olds? This isn’t the flex you think it is.

Pathetic Busy Mom can’t help herself. Sad for her kids who probably had to hear her ranting and blaming all day when they could’ve been at school.

Yeah. I’m sure people reading at or above a 4th grade level is pretty annoying to you. Hope your MRS degree is getting you through.

People here whine about kids being "soft" today but then also snark on kids who are vaguely competent human beings. They thrive on drama and can't exist without being rude.

It felt like a very long short day. LOL I’m glad we didn’t go yesterday for a 2 hour delay also. I prefer regular days.
