We aren’t talking about cell phones. I know Rs are pretty slow but do try to keep up.

In that discussion, when a follow up question was asked about the cell phone pilot, she posted that there was a survey open for the pilot. We have confirmed with her that she thought it was apparent that the survey was intended for Arlington parents, especially as the survey asks Arlington-specific demographic questions. While her post was well intentioned, her wording did not highlight who should and should not fill out the survey. She is extremely apologetic about the confusion; nothing nefarious was intended. We want to state extremely clearly that no one outside of Arlington should have filled out the survey, and we will email the Arlington School Board to clarify that was not the intention of the original poster nor us. We stand by our support of the cell phone J-30 draft and feel strongly it can stand on its own without any outside influence. This was an individual error and a mistake and not that of any larger group effort.

That’s a pretty generous interpretation of someone actively soliciting non-Arlington residents to “submit a positive comment” via an APS survey. It may not have been officially sanctioned, but this was not miscommunication.

+1 more APE spin and lies

If their view is so popular why do they need to play dirty? Wonder where else they rounded up votes from???

We are talking about how unethical and awful APE is. How low and dirty they are.

Most people don't care about APE and don't even know they exist. I mean do they have more than 10 people in that group? Are you scared of them? Why do you even care? Most APS parents from the south I've met are pretty ignorant and backwood regardless of their actual positions either way--The "All schools in Arlington are great" crowd.

.

I'm decidedly independent. Can't stand the flakes on both sides since they make 4th grade level arguments that cater to 3rd grade level voting constituents. The cell phone policy is the best thing to happen to APS in years. Maybe the only good thing during that time. Perhaps we need another thread for people to name anything else that's been good. (And I don't mean a good to fix a bad like opening schools after closing them because of covid because reopening was inevitable.)

She deleted her original post in the Alexandria group. Too bad screenshots live forever. Don't post stuff that will come back to bite you.

APE should take ownership since she, as a representative DID solicit official feedback from outside the community for an Arlington SB policy considerations.

Too bad APE won't learn anything. They probably do this all of the time.

Someone in the know once told me that the super meets with APE four times a year. What other advocacy group or person has that level of influence?

They are terrible people IRL, and honestly I judge Dr. Duran for giving them so much time to influence APS policy. I don't really think he cares about the rest of us plebes. Certainly not the marginalized.

Update: the APE poster now claims her message was misconstrued!

No I think we all got her message loud and clear when she clearly invited people in the Alexandria group to take the APS survey!

These people are shameless.

Here's her latest post in the Alexandria group:

"It has come to my intention that in the comments of my post about how neighboring districts administer SOLs, where someone asked what the latest was on Arlington’s cell phone policy in Arlington, my comment and share of a survey collecting community feedback is being misconstrued as asking Alexandria families to answer the survey. These surveys always ask if you are a community member, parent, teacher, etc. I would never want someone who does not fall into one of these categories to lie or inappropriately fill out a survey.
The only reason I was in an Alexandria group to begin with is because I used to live there; so what I meant but should have explicitly stated was “if you also live/work, etc. in Arlington”. I’m sorry that was not obvious—I think being in comments I was rushing and not paying enough attention to my phrasing. And again, from my perspective as a former Alexandria resident, that’s very common. Regardless, I’ve deleted the original post to reduce confusion.
Finally—it also came across like I was posting on behalf of APE I think because when I shared a link to the website on the post a thumbnail of APE’s logo popped up. I was seeking information on how other districts take SOL tests out of my own interest in the EdTech issue—because it’s often used as an excuse for keeping our kids on iPads. The cell phone sidebar conversation in the comments was also not at all an official post from APE as an organization.
Happy to answer questions from those who found my posts concerning…I take ethics very seriously and have not and would never seek to inappropriately tip scales or violate rules. I am simply enthusiastic about reducing screen usage in schools and I’m sorry I did not communicate that better."

Lol. In her original post now deleted, she asked people to reach out if they wanted to collaborate with APE. She WAS writing as an APE representative. The screenshot is in the first post by OOP.

Here's the text of Becky's first post:

"So firstly, thank you for letting me join this group despite being an Arlington resident. I am very involved in Arlington Parents for Education (APE) - Forum, a nonprofit parent-run group advocating for accountability and excellence in Arlington schools. We originated as the “Open schools” group in Arlington during the pandemic. Now we are focused on a range of issues, from evidence-based pedagogy to school budgeting policy.
I wanted to reach out to ya’ll in Alexandria City to see how your system administers SOL testing. We are pushing back on the overuse of iPads in our elementary grades, and a constant excuse we are hearing is that the iPads are required for SOLs starting in 3rd grade (and that kids need to be familiar with them by 3rd, despite their completely intuitive UX…and the fact that touch screens make many kids like my son trigger happy and test poorly, but I digress). So they are essentially blaming VDOE for iPads in our schools, when I know there’s no way that all jurisdictions in VA have spent their limited budget on thousands of iPads the way that Arlington has.
VDOE stipulates that SOLs are electronic, but not what medium they are taken with (ie tablets or laptops). Can anyone confirm how they’re taken in Alexandria City, and any other neighboring school districts that you may be familiar with? Thanks in advance!!
And here is our website feel free to sign up for our biweekly newsletter or reach out if you’d like to collaborate on any issue!"

Didn't know Liabetes is contagious!
