What's a food that people generally love but you think is overrated?

Most Italian food. Super simple dishes using 3 ingredients that tastes like a peasant made it and restaurants overcharge for it and expect 30 dollars for pasta.

Sure, and I'm saying it's not worth one or two dollars more for me for something I like less than other options, despite seeing it praised as better by many. I'm not clear on why that's something to "um" about, but okay.

I love asparagus.

I felt the same about sea urchin until I lived in Japan and learned where to get it. I think it has to be incredibly fresh and then it's amazing, but at a run of the mill American sushi restaurant it's gag inducing.

This is true for any local fresh food. People are getting grocery store stuff that’s been chosen for hardiness versus flavor, frozen and shipped thousands of miles.
