I will bite. My DS with a 1400 and 3.9W GPA from FCPS and rigorous course load got into Fordham, Lafayette, F&M, Arizona, JMU. Rejected VT and WL AU (this one was a surprise on the WL). Enrolling Lafayette.

I’ll bite too. S scored 700 verbal, 710 math in one sitting of the SAT. 4.0 uw, 7 APs, rest honors. SMCM with merit.

Twins DD, committed at:

W&M ED CS
1410, 4.3 wgpa, 7-8 APs, reg ECs (sports, PT jobs)

JMU EA Business
1260, 3.9 wGPA, less APs & but stronger leadership ECs

Congrats to all the grads and their parents! As a mom to 2 underclassmen, thanks to those who helpfully shared stats and info on merit aid... We don't get need-based because our assets are a hair too high, so we're going to be trying to get a list of merit aid schools together soon. Our high schoolers so far have 4.0s but no huge national awards.

Thanks! Kid is super excited even though it's so far away from the DMV.

To the PP who said VCU, go Rams!! In my family there are two successful young adult grads, one on the med side, one on the arts side!

It's ok.

And that's a nice, normal list for a VA in-state. Congrats and Go Tribe!

Go Smithy. Have a friend's who's daughter is deciding between Smith W&M and UMD

My current junior DD adored Smith on our tour, and has the stats to throw her hat in the ring for ED, but there’s no way we could afford it even if she did get in.

Now hunting for similarly academic schools that offer merit aid. She particularly liked the decentralized housing and dining systems at Smith.

This was my thinking during junior year. But it turns out that SLACS, and especially those with large endowments, often give a lot of money. In our case, those schools gave more than the big state schools with merit scholarships. A pleasant surprise! All of this is to say that you may want to apply and see what you get from
Smith.

In their info session, Smith said specifically they don’t offer merit scholarships. And we make just a bit too much to get any financial aid.

I think Vassar, her other favorite, will be the same.

MHC?

So different?!

Has your kid visited both? I suggest a sleepover visit.
