Probably correct. Maryland voters not only really like Hogan personally but even some Democrats found it useful to have a pragmatic Republican governor to check some of the excesses of the legislature. The same has been true in blue Massachusetts with moderate GOP governors like Weld, Romney (at the time) and Charlie Baker. The problem is that if a pragmatic, even moderate, Republican goes to the US Senate, they will count toward a GOP majority to run the chamber. |
I’m voting for Trone, but Hogan built this. http://hogancompanies.com/about_us/ |
With public money. https://washingtonmonthly.com/2020/01/12/who-does-marylands-governor-really-work-for/ |
Supposedly, that is why people voted for Trump, because he's a business man. How did that turn out? |
Wow……. |
The robber barron governor. No thanks. |
I have voted for hogan zero times and will continue to do so, even though I don’t love Trone or alsobrooks. Lawrence can get bent. |
Not a snowballs chance in h*ll would I vote for Hogan, and Maryland probably won't either
1 - Hogan is incredibly right wing (was kept in check by democratic state legislature during his time in office). I probably disagree with him on every single policy 2 - MD, a very blue state (not purple) is not going to tip the senate 3 - abortion and access to birth control are very much on my mind, and I assume the mind of every female in the state (and I am way past the age of having babies, but I worry about my daughters and their friends, and all the young women) |
Of course it is, when talking about national politics, and the importance of the party that holds the Senate Majority. I used to be one of those "I vote for the person, not the party" people. In fact, I still am, in state and local elections. But then I grew up, and realized that the individuals and personalities involved in these races are far, far less important than making sure the institutions of government aren't further corrupted by the likes of Kevin McCarthy, Mike Johnson, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and the like. |
I respect this a lot more (even though I think you're incredibly, irretrievably wrong about national politics and issues) that I do those (on this thread and elsewhere) who are talking about soft on crime, Maryland's economic growth, etc. I'd prefer everyone have a proper grasp of the issues (even if I disagree with them) than blather on about irrelevancies. |
The notion that flipping the MD Senate seat will do anything to break, or even slightly loosen, the MAGA hold on the GOP is pure idiocy. MAGA's hold on the GOP will not be "broken" in the MD senate race. All voting for Hogan and will go is make it virtually certain that the GOP will hold the Senate, with the MAGA's still in control. Seriously, use your head, PP. |
[headdesk] This is the Senate race, not the governor's race. Why are you talking about the Kirwan commission? |
How is Alsobrooks more moderate than Trone? |
Is Hogan trying to rebrand himself as pro-choice? If not, he can’t win. Maryland is a pro-choice state loud and proud. |
Being good at business is disqualifying for being good at government. |
