Where on earth are you getting your numbers?

DC police stats. 12 plus a day. People who dismiss crime: the carjackers will come for you.

"There is nothing progressive about allowing violent criminals to rampage through marginalized communities with impunity."

We need to provide these citizens with the wrap-around services they need, so they don't need to resort to a life of crime to survive. The failure is on society for not providing these marginalized citizens a way forward.

NP. Nobody needs to be committing carjacking and dumping the cars a few hours later “to survive”. These people aren’t stealing loaves of bread. They’re terrorizing society.

Actually it makes sense to steal a car for a few hours, use it to run errands such as the grocery store, laundry mat or a run to a food bank. Then dump it somewhere. It literally makes sense, rather than a car rental which requires a valid ID card, credit card, etc. This is really about resources.

DC should have a car rental program in which impoverished residents can check out a car for a few hours and then drop it off a hubs located throughout the city.

MPD reports 49 carjackings YTD not 51 in 4 days. PP where are you getting this number?

https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/carjacking

However MPD data shows 447 thefts of motor vehicles YTD with W1, 2 and 5 showing highest numbers. DC does tend to charge UAU a lot.

https://crimecards.dc.gov/all:property%20crimes/all:weapons/1:year%20to%20date/citywide:ward

447/31 = @14 cars stolen or carjacked per day YTD in 2024. Astonishing.

No wonder insurance rates are rising.

Teens joyriding and criminals using the cars to commit other crimes are not "running errands."

These fools should be forced to listen, not speak, just listen to the grandfather (believe he's a pastor) of the young woman college student killed by the disgruntled DC young man on new years in the hotel in Friendship Heights - when he randomly fired off a few caps through the door to show everyone how p*-ed off he was. The grieving grandfather blasted these progressive crime "attitudes". Should be REQUIRED READING.There is blood on these folks hands.

What is a wrap around service? I hear about them quite a bit.

Wrap around services are services provided by society for those in their time of need.

1. Proper & adequate food
2. Proper & adequate housing
3. Medical care (physical, mental, emotional,)
4. Resources to support all families, it's amazing to me how the US lacks behind in childcare costs and does not provide for paid maternity leave (the US in many respects is a 3rd world country)
5. Low Infant mortality rates for all
6. Lower tax rates for the citizenry rather than corporations

And it’ll be poor people who’ll be hurt the most by progressive policies. They’re paying more out of pocket now due to DC’s legalization of crime.

None of those things do anything to stop crime in the short or medium term.

Not for insurance since they can just go uninsured and use paper license plates without consequence. I wouldn't assume this will get progressives to change their mind about crime.

The Judiciary Committee needs to step in and exercise regular oversight over USAO DC re: adult carjacking offenses. When are those "surged" resources coming from DOJ? Carjacking is supposed to be one focus.

But it’s real.

This is the crazy part. We are not talking San Fran or Bahamas or a favela but DC.

We have done this to ourselves deliberately.

I’d really like to know where exactly these people are living who want no crimes persecuted and no jails and no accountability and 26 year old men treated as juveniles. Where do they live? Certainly not among them, having a gun pointed in their face. The people who want no consequences for anything are delusional, but all they will reap with this stance is all they are supposedly against. Sadly the downward spiral of DC is already spilling over into adjacent counties.

How do you know what is best for these people? They may not want your crappy government housing or food. You should just give these citizens cash so they can make their own decisions about their futures. Instead of spending money housing them in jails, just give them the money so that they will have time to work on improving themselves.

DC should provide low cost insurance.

Seems it would be a decent business to target stealing the cars with fake paper tags.

NO amount of intervening and govt spending will save those people despite what liberals think. They are far too gone. Those human pieces of S then have kids who turn into the same trash, and the cycle repeats over and over again. Unfortunately, we can't require licenses for having kids. We can't make parents parent. The only thing we can do is mass incarcerate to make society safe for law abiding citizens.

I'm sorry reality hurts the senses of liberals. We can only live in the world as it is, not as we want it to be.

You do understand that you are potentially taking the risk of locking up the next Einstein. Are you willing to take that risk? I'm not.

Not willing to take “The risk of locking up the next Einstein”? Lol. Wow! What an insult to Albert Einstein. And completely nonsensical. Don’t worry, none of these gun wielding carjackers is a genius in disguise.
