Name an expensive product or service that’s worth it

Private school

My kids were back in school in August 2020 (they were in lower elementary at that time) and it was amazing

Even without that, I love the school, and they were there before COVID anyway but that was worth 100 times what we will pay in tuition for all the years

housecleaner
a car detailer that comes to you (just a few times per year)
Kerrygold butter and good non-shelf stable bread
everything associated with the bed- quality mattress, sheets, duvet, pillow
Wolf range

not worth it:
manicures, particularly "high end" ones
"status" credit cards like Amex platinum
luxury brand handbags

You aren’t using it correctly then!

how do you use correctly? I use an amazon visa because we buy so much from amazon but i keep hearing that as people who travel A LOT we should have something else. can it really give me that much more $$?

Not worth it: organic grocery store produce. Just go to the farmer's market.
you do realize we don’t all have access to farmers markets year round right?

Also, I can get my organic grocery store produce delivered to my house but I have to go to the farmer's market

In the last year, it’s paid for my clear membership. It gives us $15 in Uber credits a month. Luggage credit on an airline. Use of lounges/free food. Plus travel points we’ve used for flights and hotels.
I balked at the high fee but it’s worth it to us.

I’ll go first:
1- Lululemon & Athleta yoga pants are worth it on quality, comfort and they last forever.
2 - Spirit or Frontier sound like a good deal, but you won’t ever see me flying on those carriers. Sure, the other carriers have problems too but no discount is worth the total experience and feeling of safety.
This is a survey I’m trying to “tell a story” so please humor me with examples of items you happily pay more for vs the cheaper product. TIA!

They aren't even cheaper by the time you pay for bags, your seat, your CARRY ON, etc. I hate those airlines.

Have you priced Southwest recently? Even with bag fees, Spirit and Frontier are significantly cheaper for most flights unless you are booked far in advance when they have a special. I booked flights to Florida in November for December flights, and both Spirit and Frontier with bags cost less for two people to fly round trip than for one roundtrip on Southwest. I wound up picking Spirit, and my husband said that the overall experience was better than Southwest because the bag package included early boarding and an assigned seat, avoiding the madness of SW boarding for Florida flights.

PP here. I hate Southwest. I don't like knowing what my seat is going to be. We became loyal to an airline that my husband was flying to Asia for work so we racked up thousands of miles. I always end up with a better experience with them than with any of the cheaper airlines.

Mackage coats. Stylish, beautiful and warm. I look forward to breaking mine out every December.

Classic designer items. This includes my Burberry trench, Chanel classic flap, etc. They are great additions to my wardrobe and have lasted way longer than cheaper alternatives.

What style is your favorite? Some of the styles are so interesting, but I wonder if theyd be flattering on anyone over a size 000?

I have the Kay with the fur collar. I'm a size 4/6. And before someone comments, I'm not in DC anymore. Live in a colder climate now.

Night nanny
House cleaner
Meal delivery service
Guava Lotus travel crib
Venta airwashers
Happiest Baby Sleepea swaddle

Nanny- already had her for my older kid, but it’s been great handing over the baby a few times a week so I can take my older kid to library story times, etc. She is thriving with this special mommy time.

I wish I’d splurged on a better stroller with our first child. She was a crappy napper so I pushed her stroller 2-3 hours a day. My new baby is a great sleeper though.

Not worth it: Ollie swaddle. My kid got out of them, and the Velcro is annoying

Loved the Ollie! Sorry, you haven't had a good experience. And I loved our night nanny! So worth the investment.

+1000

I will always pay to do something quicker if possible

Agree. Add to that toll roads, no-ad streaming and reserved seating

I'm the person who originally said the platinum isn't worth it. Not to derail, and I'm sure it is worth it to some folks, but for us....

Yes it paid for my clear and my Uber credits, lounges and some fees. Even assuming that really gets me to "break even" on the membership fee, the points value is trash compared to other points cards, and even cash back. And it is so much efforts to strategize and work the system to maximize the points. Some people find that fun, and that is fine. But for me, no. I can see it making sense if you are flying at least monthly, and internationally at least twice a year. That isn't me.

And another +1 for All Clad. We've been using the same set for 21 years, still great.

Yes to All Clad. I finally bought a new set after 30 years and gave the old set to my adult daughter because they're fine. They are the best.

United Basic means you know you are boarding last and will mostly likely have terrible seats. SW...you never know till you are there. Yes they might be bad...or they could be fine or even great!

Love the Falls Church farmer’s market. It’s all year.
