30 year old neighbor is not shoveling snow

Both our parents still live at home. My brothers will make sure my parents and any elderly neighbors are shoveled out.

Does that make you feel special? Maybe nobody wants your help.

Who raised some of you rude and inconsiderate people? What happened to just being nice neighbors and having basic manners? I cannot believe how selfish and rude some people are. Posts like these are so disappointing.

I’d actually be pretty angry if a neighbor trespassed on my property and started shoveling my house to their liking.

DP - I would love their help …

We live in a nice, very expensive part of NW DC.

The houses that have not shoveled are all uniformly:
-Rental houses
-The very expensive flipped houses ($2.5M+) purchased by younger rich couples

Even the older neighbors salted their walks and hired people to shovel (or another neighbor shoveled as a favor).

Why do you care?

Where are packages delivered? Do you have a separate walkway to your front door that you do shovel? My neighbors don't shovel either, but it's the only access to their front door. I feel terrible for the delivery people.

I also have an AWD SUV and don’t shovel the driveway, except for a small walking path to my door.

I have several disc issues in my back, so my focus is on shoveling the minimum. I shovel the part of the sidewalk I’m required to, the driveway path, and make sure my front steps are clear.

Why do you care?

Is there truly no longer a sense of doing something because it’s the right thing to do anymore?

Anonymous wrote:What are some of you guys talking about? Is it really not a law in your county to shovel the sidewalk???? It’s definitely a law in Baltimore

It’s the law in DC, too. Everyone on my block shoveled except the house full of 20 something women, who are generally just not nice or neighborly people. The stretch in front of their house is now pure ice.

It's the law in Arlington too. A couple years ago one of the county board members was publicly shamed because he didn't shovel his.

Just wear boots and stop demanding that your neighbors shovel snow.

A few inches of snow just shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.

Neighborhoods are better when people care in positive practical ways

The snow will be gone starting next Wednesday.

Your entitlement is showing. We don’t shovel because no sane person would care.
