Welcome Speaker Scalise. |
Go Matt!
|
Well said Nonetheless: McCarthy losing his position as speaker of the house because he chose to keep government running even though he must have known the MAGAs would never forgive him - reflects well on him and his legacy. He has done some crazy stuff but he chose to keep government running, which many MAGAs don’t want to do. I don’t think they realize that a healthy private sector requires a functioning public sector. Companies need educated healthy employees, safe roads and airways for transporting trades goods, safe food supplies, and many other functions of government. |
Not to mention properly funded military … they have held up appointments for so many military leadership positions as it is .., not paying deployed troops on top of that could have been disastrous for national security. |
Don't kid yourself. He wanted a shutdown. But it only works if you pass a bill to hand to the Senate, so they reject it and there's a stalemate so you point the finger at the other party. When you can't even do that, you are a failure. And he was a failure. |
The only way he becomes Speaker is if he can either convince the Freedumb Caucus to trust him (and risk getting screwed by them) or by convincing Dems to support him (not likely to happen) |
DP. But I agree he’s the most likely candidate. However, he has myeloma. |
+1. He didn't compromise. He just couldn't pull off his plan to shut down the government and blame democrats, so he folded. |
It’s a very treatable cancer and he should be able to live for a long time, hopefully. Whether he wants to waste it on these morons is another question. |
Blah blah. Every single one of them was on board with McCarthy's plan to shut down the Government and blame democrats. Every single one of them was on board with McCarthy's plan to threaten to default on the debt in order to extort concessions out of democrats. Good riddance. |
I used to think that Republicans (at least the country club Republicans who held elected office from the time of Reagan through the George Bushes) were disciplined, rule-driven, heartless, and bloodless. And we Democrats were part of the party that caused Will Rogers to say, "I don't belong to any organized political party. I'm a Democrat." Well, no longer...but now some of the sane Republicans will elect someone else, and the far right will continue to throw tantrums. |
I have this fantasy, too. |
