My understanding is that NONE of it is incredibly lucrative, no matter where you are dancing. If you can teach and choreograph, as well as maybe teach some fitness classes, you can make OK money.

I don't have any. Just the one poster is arguing that a college degree in dance isn't going to get you a lucrative dance job and that they really should just take a company position in stead. I mean, are there really ANY lucrative dance jobs? Unless you are world famous like Misty Copeland with book deals and what not, you are pretty much NOT making bank.

My only suggestion is to consider a minor in business so she can have the knowledge of how to run a business or studio someday. There are far too many retired dancers running terribly unorganized and toxic studios in America. I’ve been to a few. 🤣

You are completely misreading me. I am the poster above with a child looking to combine dance and exercise science. I have looked at pretty much every dance program in the country by now, with the help of the FB page. I wasn’t being snarky at all. I want to know from the other poster where dancers are making big bucks, because it isn’t well known as an incredibly lucrative career. Much like my choice to work in s nonprofit, people see dance as a calling. They love performing and aren’t in it for millions. My child isn’t likely going to have a performance career-she might teach on the side while working in either a pt office or in athletic training of some form. Dance is honestly just the easiest path to a degree for her-that’s it.

Purchase College is excellent for dance performance, but it’s a conservatory BFA so very intensive and no ability to double major in something like environmental science. Purchase does not offer dance as a minor either. It’s all dance all the time!

Yeah, we have taken a tangent. This poster is looking for schools that would allow her daughter to continue dance AND double major with bio/environmental science with the goal of going into conservation work for her job.
