LOL. First World Problems.

Can you explain what “random audit” means?

They check everything in your cart. Given how long it takes, I would just leave once I was flagged

How do you spell “false imprisonment” and “kidnapping?”

How melodramatic of you. Are you a “Libertarian?”

Because we're not lazy.

No, you just like to whine and complain.

This is the way.

And all the accrued loss is passed on to us paying (honest) consumers via higher grocery prices bc of theft and people like you.

Your tantrums change nothing, but hey, they make you feel good and that’s what’s important.

Why are you on here caping so hard for crooked-ass Giant?

I have no opinion on Giant one way or the other. I just loathe (and laugh at) lazy people whining “OMG briiiiiing back the cashiiiiieeerrrrs.”

It is the worst - every Giant every where is a nightmare.

I've seen people do this but never figured out how it works exactly. Can someone explain it in more detail?

You scan your Giant card when you pick up the scanner. Then you scan (and bag) your groceries while you shop around the store. When you're ready to check out, you push a button on the scanner and it pops up a barcode that you then scan at the self-checkout. It pulls your whole order up on the screen quickly and you proceed to pay as normal. It's super easy.

I heard you have to have an ID to activate it now, is that true? I tried scanning the barcode on my phone/on the Giant app and it wouldn't let me.

I have not needed an ID, no. I use my Giant card that's on my keyring (I haven't tried it with the mobile app card).

NP. Yay, yet another app to load. Some of us loathe everything having to be done via app. Oh well, we know we're in the minority but it's just another thing that adds to the suckiness of the shopping experience.

I literally said I don't use the app. I use the physical plastic card on my keyring. I don't have the app.

It’s so weird to me that there are people on this thread defending companies increasingly shoving their service onto the customer. How bored would have to be to troll a grocery store thread?

It's done due to crime. You think Giant really wants to make the self-checkout experience more annoying for customers? They have to, because of theft and no prosecution by the district attorneys.

I just go to Whole Foods.

This is OP. I honestly used to love Giant. I grew up in the DMV and my family always shopped there. But I’ve reached my limit. Yes, I know this is a “first world problem” but we have to eat and we have to buy food so I’m going to start looking for more convenient options.

This is why I never pay .05 for each bag. No way in hell I’m paying for the privilege of ringing my own groceries.

I have not seen any of this stuff about blocking the doors at my Giants (Arlington/Falls Church/McLean). Where is this happening?

McLean Giant had one entrance completely locked down up until recently (side by CVS). Oakton Giant only has one entrance open and other permanently closed.

The self-checkout lanes are now “20 items or less.” And the few regular self-checkout machines are so ridiculously annoying. The machine is constantly telling me to place the item in the checkout area when it’s already there! I’m done.

Cathedral Commons and Westbard are beyond annoying - definitely worse than before, perhaps due to software update. Yesterday, I told that staff "monitor" that the machines are so maddening they're lucky I don't put a sledge hammer "in the bagging area"... He smirked knowingly.

(Imagine working that shift and having to listen to that all day. Living hell.)

I take one or two expensive items per trip (usually 3 trips a week) and I simply don't scan it. Yesterday I walked with $22 of Peets coffee beans for free. Last week I didn't scan $16 of British Cheddar.

If they want me to bring my own bags, check myalf out, pack all my things, they can either adjust price to account for my labor or I will.

I love it! Screw ‘em.
