My uncle was Herbert and went by Uncle Hymie. Yes. Jewish immigrants from Russia during WWI

I had an Uncle Herman that went by Hy (after the family shortened the long Eastern European last name to Sherman)!

Herman is not ready for a come back IMO

These are al Millennial names. They will not make a comeback until grandparents or great grandparent age. The posters saying Lynda, Susan, Barbara, etc. are spot on.

Lauren, Alyssa, and Allison really aren't that unpopular. Trending downwards, yes, but there's still plenty of babies and little kids with those names. Last year, Lauren was #327. It dropped out of the top 100 in 2014. Allison was #101, and it was well in the top 100 all through the 2010s. That's not even getting into the Alysons, Alison, Allyson, etc. Alyssa was #288. By contrast, Barbara was #976, Linda was #807, and Susan wasn't in the top 1000.

I didn't realize Susan had fallen that far. I think it's really prime for a comeback as Susanna and Susie are named for grandma.

Names tend to come back when people start honoring their grandparents, so this baby is due, as the first wave of those 50,000 Lisas are turning 60.

Hugely popular after Lisa Marie Presley was born! All the Elvis fan mommies named their daughters Lisa Marie. Ask me how I know!

Also consider that the nicknames aren’t popular anymore so we have William (who’s maybe Will or Liam), Daniel, Patrick, Christopher, Geoffrey or Jefferson, Thomas - just to name some examples straight from my life with teens.

Gen Xers with these names would have been Bill or Billy, Dan, Pat or Rick(y), Chris, Jeff and Tom or Tommy.

In my family’s situation, Dad is Bill and son is William.

Not a fan of any of these names coming back, other than Gwen and Mabel. My daughter had two Mabels in her Brownie troop this year so it may already be coming back.

So agree, somehow the other greatest generation names need to stay in the past, like Gertie, Howard ,Lenny and Harvey

Not to mention Richard. DD goes into hysterical laughter whenever she hears about an old-guy Richard nicknamed Dick.
