I love Corndog! You are a great pet owner OP.

This thread should be pinned so we can come back for good vibes when hell breaks loose as we ramp up for 2024 election. I’ll donate @corndogGFM.

If OP is uncomfortable setting up a GFM, maybe Jeff can connect us discreetly?

Awww, guys! I have no idea how to set up a GFM, but just knowing that you guys would be willing to donate really means a lot. Honestly, this entire thread has been so helpful to me, and it's so great knowing that everyone is pulling for Corndog. I love this side of DCUM!

I have a good plan (I think) to pay this off. I'm going to pay half right now. I've created a strict budget, and if I stick to it, I should be able to pay the balance off within the 6-month interest-free period. It still sucks, and when I think about it too much, I feel a pit in my stomach, but what's done is done, and most important, Corndog is going to be OK.

Corndog is still doing great with recovery. He doesn't even mind wearing that annoying e-collar. He's lucky he's so darn cute; it helps me feel less annoyed with this whole situation. Kidding.... sort of! lol

Here's an alternate to GFM... gosh I just realized how great it'd be to see a pic of corndog.

Tell us the name of the vet! Then we can just send a payment and say “put this toward Corndogs bill!” 😀😀

I really, really appreciate this, but it would feel so weird to ask you guys for money. I wish I didn't feel so weird about it because the help would be great! Ha! But seriously, I'll be fine. I'll get it paid off. You have no idea how touched I am by this, though.

To the person who suggested donating straight to the vet office, I had to put it on a credit card. They required payment in full as soon as he was released.

Corndog is stupid cute! And his hair is really soft, like a teddy bear. Did I mention I had him groomed the day he ate the corn cob? I had her do his whole body one length (short but not shaved) and a modified (shorter) puppy face. He's dark brown and his eyes are this really pretty lighter version of his hair. He's 60 lbs.

OP, could the vet still accept donations for the other half that you owe? I too would love to help.

Corndog sounds adorable and you are a great owner.

I really appreciate that.

I don't owe anything to the vet, I now owe directly to the credit card company.

Maybe I will set up that freefunder account. This is so unexpected and surprising that you all keep asking to help me. I've been on this site for a very long time, and it's always here when I need to get my mind off the real world. Most recently when I faced a really tough situation during the COVID shutdowns. I can always count on this place to make me laugh or roll my eyes really hard. haha But every once in a while I come across a post where everyone just comes together and offers support. There was a woman who was dying of cancer that used to post updates occasionally, and if I remember correctly, someone found her real-life blog. I should look for that thread and catch up from where I left off; I wonder about her sometimes. One of my favorite threads is the great soup thread of 2014, I come back to this thread every winter and try a new soup. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/75/411979.page

Okay, Im rambling now. I'm going to go run my Sunday errands; later, I'll take a look at that freefunder account and see if it looks like something I can set up.

Corndog has had his morning walk, and morning breakfast and is now snoozing on his back with his hind legs straight up in the air. I probably should start him on that sedative they gave me should he start to get too wired up. Especially now that I'm spacing out his pain med more, that helps keep him calm too. Monday, I'll call his vet for an appt; they said his incision should be checked after 10 days to make sure it's healing properly.

Have a great Sunday, everyone!

Corndog mom!! That thread is the one that got me addicted to dcum! I still think about it and the kindness of strangers and it warms my heart. So glad corndog is doing well and thanks for describing him. I am a total sucker for fluffy dogs (ok, all dogs but the especially the fluffy ones)!

I hope corn dog is going well! I just wanted to share that I opened the new Bark Box and this month’s theme is carnival. Guess what was inside? Yep. A corn dog. Lol.

Hi everyone!

Well, corndog is now in a plastic cone, and he HATES it.

I took him to the vet for a check of the incision, and she noted that there was some crusting and that there was also a moist unhealed area. I had him in the surgery suit during the visit, and she noticed it was moist in the belly area. I caught Corndog a few times licking his surgery suit on top of his incision. And also, the soft cone they gave us at the emergency vet was not really doing a good job after the 5th day or so. I caught him licking despite the soft cone, but I thought I was doing a good job of catching and stopping him right away. I'm pretty much with him 24/7 during this time. Clearly, he was getting to himself more than I realized and licking his surgical suit more often than I realized.

He absolutely HATES the plastic cone. I feel so bad for him. The first time we put it on him, he remained frozen for an hour and 15 minutes, at which time I took it off him. It was so sad; at one point his eyes welled up with tears, and he was panting. He couldn't even be comforted with cheese! Since yesterday he's had it on all day (except to eat, drink water, go for a walk, and chew on his favorite beef tendon stick). At least now he's moving around with it, sleeping with it, etc. But it still takes two of us to put it on him. My kids will be at work during the week, so I need to figure out what I'll do when they aren't here to help me. I guess I just won't be able to take it off him all day. I'll have to help him eat/drink. Maybe I can find a way to prop up his bowls in a way he can get to them. Going on a walk will be interesting; he won't be able to sniff around.

The doctor wants me to take a picture of the incision at the end of the week and email it to her. Which I appreciate; the visit to have her check it was $100. This dog is bleeding me dry worse than my kids!

Fingers crossed that this thing heals properly and the doc likes what she sees with the next photo check-in.
