Unrealistic things in movies and tv shows that drive you crazy

Do any of you regularly keep your bra on during sex? I remember first noticing that in SATC, now it's constant. I suppose it lets actresses do sex scenes without being nude, but it's odd.

Shoes in the house isn’t unrealistic, though…you just don’t do it at your house.

It is unrealistic that everyone wears shoes all the time. Most families I interact with are shoes off in the house houses.

You need to get out of your UMC DMV bubble. No one in the rest of the country takes their shoes off the minute they walk in the door.

Women they are at best 110 lbs soaking wet being able to beat the crap out of massive dudes that are over 6' and 220+ lbs. Sorry, a single punch from a man that huge would devastate a small female. Action movies with women beating the crap out of tons of guys are so unrealistic. I don't think you understand how strong men can be. A single punch from a guy big enough is easily powerful enough to crush skulls and there are so many guys out there that can toss around 300 lbs and slam that in the ground with rag doll physics. Real life fights against a large pissed off man don't work out the way action movies ever portray.

Genuinely curious what show/movie you are thinking of when you say this. I can't think of any examples.

Monroe on Too Close for Comfort way back in the 80s.

Nobody even addressed his sexuality directly. And he was the real star of the show.

I think that was more because it wasn't proper to have an out gay character. Homosexuality was depicted as something you didn't talk about. The characters could behave like stereotypical "gay" people, but baby boomer moms could believe they were just charming bachelors. Charles Nelson Riley, Paul Lynde, etc.

Wilson Cruz and Scott Thompson played countless gay characters seamlessly.

The joke for the viewer was that Jack was pretending to be gay, but clearly wasn't.

Not exactly an openly gay character.

Heh, yeah, the joke was that it was even more socially unacceptable for a straight man to live with two of his female friends than even for him to be gay, and it was totally unacceptable to be gay.

“School nurse” is often in a white uniform. Hadn’t been this way in decades.

Emergency Room scenes: entire families waltz into the ER desk staffed by a white uniformed nurse and immediately get detailed updates and access to patient’s room! Mary’s been admitted! She’s doing fine after being in that terrible car crash! And, she had a baby boy! He was deleivered in the ambulance! She’s in Room 1-B talking with Dr. Smith! Yes, you may all race to her bedside with your helium balloons and gift baskets that you’ve somehow obtained en route to the hospital.

Having gone to a private school, the way they are always portrayed, esp. the uniforms. No school makes the kids wear sweater vests or ties for girls. And, it’s always portrayed as stodgier than they really are.

I don’t actually think this is unrealistic. That’s definitely not the first thing everyone does.

It's unrealistic for me. It's was the norm for me, my parents, and their parents. It's also what I have taught my children. Maybe it's culture (we are Black) or regional (parents are from the south), but all my friends and family wash their hands when they come home and before eating or cooking.

I do realize that others don't do this. Its one of the reasons I will never eat at an office potluck.

I hate scenes that are supposed to be set somewhere and are clearly filmed in LA, or in another place that bears no resemblance to the setting.

Random examples:

Halloween (1978) - palm trees and brown hills in Illinois

Fugitive (1993) - 400’ dam in Illinois

True Lies (1994) - chase in DC features LA skyscrapers

Little Miss Sunshine (2006) - family sets off on their trip from NM to LA; early scene in the van was clearly filmed on I-5 just north of LA with CA highway signs clearly visible out the windows.

This stuff has always bothered me.
