Ridiculous how many serious incidents we've had in MCPS this past few weeks alone.

I've never started a petition. Would MCPS/BOE/Elrich even care?

Nope. The BOE / Elrich only care about pushing their 'progressive' agenda. That is also what voters want. SROs are not a part of that agenda, so it won't happen.

It’s not like SROs are good for anything, though.

All cops are bastards anyway.

You are such a smart one.

I am, actually. SROs are worthless. Parkland is a case in point. Cops, by and large, are dumb AF. The profession doesn’t attract the best and brightest and the training is abysmal. We don’t need these people around our children.

Hi Wil Jawando! How are you doing? How's that safe and secure private school that you send your kids to?

Who is that? My name is Jeff. I am a 47-year old dad of three in Leesburg.

Well Jeff, why don't you leave us MCPS parents be or perhaps you aren't aware that LCPS parents have their own board?

and lcps has sros

+100

SROs have been found not be detrimental with younger kids. They are more likely to act inappropriately and more aggressively where it is not needed.

Ok can you please start a petition to make sure that MCPS trains their social workers to break up fights? Because the social workers at our school don't do that.

You don’t want fights broken up by security guards and the cops stationed outside the school.

You want someone to call the counselor’s office?

There are no cops permanently stationed outside of our school. If that's what you want, then why are you against SROs?

I am for cops being assigned schools and can respond within 5 minutes. Day work is slow it’s not that complicated.

Btw many SROs were assigned more than 1 school so not even close enough to respond sometimes.

I am against SRO’s because they were involved in discipline which is inappropriate and not in their job description. I also know some SRO’s would give investigators information on students when looking for criminals and more often than not innocent kids were targeted as criminals because the SROs had a “feeling” and did not go with evidence. That’s straight up bad policing.

I actually don't care if it's SROs or MCPS Security. But someone needs to be in control, hold kids accountable and make sure that threats are neutralized.

If that's done by SROs, fine. If MCPS security gain expanded powers and jurisdiction to do some of the things SROs used to do, great. But the schools must be a safe, secure environment.

I agree but it wasn’t safe with SROs and security.

A lot safer when we had SROs. Since SROs were removed, the calls for cops have increased dramatically.

Exactly how it should work. Success!

You clearly are the type that prefers to be reactive than proactive. Bad policy, and stupid way to live.

If your neighborhood had a lot of crime, wouldn't you either get an alarm system or want cops patrolling your neighborhood (proactive) rather than waiting for the burglar to come into your home and then call the cops (reactive)?

You think an uptick in crime and violence in our schools necessitating call the cops is success?

No wonder our schools are failing with logic like that.

Well, based on what I know, the MCPD officers are a far cry above what you’ve got out in London County. You don’t even have a county police department—you’ve got a sheriff’s office. Training, compensation and benefits are all totally different — please let those of us who have kids in McPS have this discussion.

You think SRO’s responding to the uptick is better than beat cops?

No wonder you pro SRO lunatics fail with logic.

SROs are reactive. I have literally never stopped anything ever.

No I don’t want bored cops hanging out at my house looking for a crime.

Cops don’t revent, prime, never have, never well. Housing, education, food, mental health care all prevent crime. Not cops or SROs

The SRO's are not wanted because they are required to involve police in matters which the school want to keep things hush hush. The more arrests, assaults, etc... the worse the school looks. Now do I think teachers and staff want them? Yes. Does administration and central? Absolutely not

Most of us believe SROs were a valuable part of school safety. A vocal minority did not.

A vocal minority align politically with illogical stances like SRO. People who believe in data are against SROs.

No. They want to keep SROs away from kids because they falsely accuse kids of crimes when it’s just a behavioral issue.

SROs aren’t educated enough to know the difference.
