There’s nothing wrong with wearing your Redskins gear.
|
What? Its a racist term, doesn't matter who is wearing it |
That was not a survey of tribally enrolled people, it was self-identified people who probably are NOT enrolled and don't have any documented or family connection to a tribe |
| They changed their name several years ago so if you are still wearing/displaying anything with the old name at this point I will assume that you are intending to offend people with it. You shouldn't have had it in the first place, names like that should have gone away decades ago (long before 2020!), but to still have the license plate frame or the flag on your antenna or in your front window on game day or whatever...you are just flaunting something you know is considered racist. Might as well put on a pointy hood while you're at it, you're trash. |
And yes, I feel the same way about people who display the Confederate flag. I had family members who fought on the southern side in the Civil War and can remember them and my family history without displaying any flag other than the U.S. flag. The Confederate flag, like the former Commanders team name, and plenty of other racist names and symbols, isn't about "history" or "pride," its about the ability for members of the majority group to be openly and continually disrespectful to minorities. |
So you are not Native American if you aren't "enrolled?" Who makes up these damn rules? |
Nope. Wearing Redskins gear is not the same as putting on a pointy hood. I’m not saying it’s okay (as someone who is not Native American, it’s not up to me to decide what Native Americans should or shouldn’t be offended by). However, a group of football fans cheering on their team is not the same as the Klan, which is known for burning crosses and lynchings, and to equate the two trivializes the terrible suffering from the violent persecution that has been perpetrated for so many years. Incidentally, I’m not a sports fan and don’t have any gear under either team name. |
Huh? To be Native American in the US is to be a member of a federally recognized tribe with treaty rights. It’s not a race, it’s a political designation. |
| This going out of your way to be offended by every d@mn thing has got to stop. It’s why the orange one is back in the White House. |
It’s not every damn thing, though. It’s literally a racist slur that would not be acceptable in any other context, but for some reason is allowed because muh football. |
NP Yes, it does matter. Wearing Redskins gear cannot be racist if an AA person wears it. Did you not go to college?!? |
Many people disagree with you. You sound silly trying to be so definitive when it is anything but. Your performative outrage inspires eye rolls. |
|
It's only offensive to people who deserve to be offended.
Native Americans respect people who wear old Redskins gear, because they don't want you to waste any part of the Buffalo. |
That’s quite the overreaction! Especially since many people wearing Redskins stuff are African-Americans. When I see somebody wearing Redskins gear, it just tells me they’re an OG fan. They have been fans through the good times and the bad times, and they are still proud to be fans. |
Exactly! |
