Favorite baby name

If I had more names to pick I would

a) make sure it was a name that a hostess in a restaurant can pronounce the first time she hears it.

b) spell it the ordinary way that follows the standard rules of English.

(My name is a headache for me.)

c) accept that whatever unique name I chose would end up being common in the child's kinder classroom.

I'm not saying which it is b/c I don't want it to get attention. It is very low on the SSA list etc. I hope that this is a fluke and it doesn't start to pop up more.

chill sister.

Seriously. If unique is so important, just name the kid Hobbledehoy or something.

Sister, don't be .....!!!

I wrote the Hobbledehoy comment. I'm sorry. I actually hate when other people do that. I'm just having a bad day.

Anyway, PP, maybe someone posted the name of your baby because he/she liked it so much. In the end, your baby's name certainly can't be UNKNOWN to the world. And as people learn about it, maybe they will like it to. So consider it trend-setting.

I appreciated this PP's second comment, but have to admit this one really made me laugh. !

Naomi - Biblical
Penelope - Mythological
Fionn McCool - Irish (boy, although I guess I could go with Fionna for a girl)

I actually really like Naomi, and I think Penelope (nn Poppy) is adorable. Not too sure about Fionn - though isn't that pretty similar to the popluar Finn?

Anyway, my favorite girls names are Beatrice and Vienna. Don't know if I'd actually use Vienna, but I do like it. I also like Sage.

Boy names...hmmm....I don't really like too many boy names!

Sage Steele (SP) on ESPN, formerly on Comcast Sports Net . Always thought her name was cool.

Anonymous wrote:I am always curious about the names other mothers like for their babies. While we're trying not to share our favs with our friends because we don't want to hear negatives feedback, it would be fun to throw some out there. What's you favorite name for a boy or a girl? Please share!

Boy: Henry

Girl: Riley

I'm curious to know where you got Riley. I have an old classmate who came up with that name 10 years ago and I'd never heard of it and saw that it was among top 100 names a couple years ago.

It's an Irish surname. I'd prefer to spell it Reilly but Riley would probably be easier for a girl. I have a thing for using Irish Surnames for first names. I didn't know it was popular now.

Our 2.5yo DD's name is Riley. My husband is Irish and all of his siblings/cousins have Irsih names and now of of their kids do too. We are expecting our 2nd baby and have started researching more Irsih names. If it's a boy it will probably be easy because for several generations back from my DH they have carried on the same few names, just rotated them from first to middle and such. It's it's another girl we are going to have to put some thought into it.

Keira is a great one.

I love my kids' names, but if we kept going I would have used: Girls-Fiona, Oona, Nora, Reilly, Rory, Eve. Boys - Finn, Harry, Angus, Luke. Maybe for grandkids.

I have a Japanese friend who named her kids Isis and Zen. both girls.

Another friend has a new grandaughter named Avery.

I almost named mine Keira...love that one.

I love Latin names, go figure....Maria, Catalina, Natalia, Rafael, Joaquin, Diego

American names I like: Anthony, Christian, Olivia, Ethan, Jason, Grace, Rose

My parents would've named my sister Orion if she was a boy. (my dad is a trekkie)

Anthony Keides named his kid Everly because he is a fan of the Everly Brothers. So poser to copy a celebrity!!! And do you like Silas because it is on the show Weeds?
