No. Here is a sample pre-IB 9th grade curriculum that was shared during their info night:

Intensified English 9
World Language - Level 3 or higher
Intensified or AP World History
Intensified Biology
Intensified Geometry or higher
PE
Elective

This was my now-junior's experience. Also, pre-IB students all take AP Government in 10th. US/VA Government is a VA state requirement and there's no room for it in the IB 11th-12th schedule so they need to get it done in 10th.

3.I have had three DCs who attended WL be admitted to UVa over the past 6 years, including a current WL senior who was admitted ED. None of my 3 were full IB but it is becoming increasingly difficult to be admitted to UVA from WL if a student is not full IB. My current WL senior reports that of the 13 WL students admitted ED to UVA this year, only 2 were not full IB.

Your response reflects your ignorance of college admissions and how high schools and students in general - not mine - track college admissions. just wondering, are any of those IB admits doing UVA Engineering?

I know of one just because the admit is my DC's good friend but otherwise do not know how the numbers are spread among the different schools.

My son's best friend went through the IB Program at W-L and is now a Physics major at UVA. Second son's friend - also full IB - was just admitted to UVa and is planning on doing computer science.

But it's the "unburdened" students at Yorktown whose college admissions consistently look very weak for kids at a school with YHS's affluence.

Good choice. My DD opted for the AP and regretted it. Only reason she didn't end up with a crap grade was it was 2020 and Q4 was just for work to bring up her grade.

DC is taking everything intensified as it is, let DC enjoy their Freshman year.

AP World History on top of 2 other intensified classes and marching band has not made our child's freshman year miserable. Based on our two children's experiences so far, intensified history wasn't particularly work-heavy at all; and even with intensified English and intensified Biology, child #2 hasn't had much homework, except for AP World History - but even that isn't every night. Maybe the Eng/Bio workload will change 3rd quarter? It seems that the students are being given a lot of time in class to get work done.
