| Looking to buy in one of these districts. How do the elementary schools compare? All about the same or any differences? Thanks! |
|
Look at the school climate surveys. Flora Singer does better even though Sligo Creek and Woodlin have a higher Great Schools score.

| They're all going to have the same curriculum, so a lot of it is going to come down to who your kid's teacher is. |
| All are about the same. One difference is that Sligo Creek hosts the French immersion program, so a chunk of the students there come from out of boundary. |
| any meaningful difference at the middle school level? SSIMS v. Sligo? |
SSIMS is a good bit larger, and has immersion programs (both Spanish and French) too. It's also an IB middle years school, so most kids take 3 years of world language classes and 8th graders all do community service projects. It uses a block schedule and offers a large number of elective choices (each student gets two electives). |
Flora Singer has been amazing for our kids! |
That's an important factor but it's more to it than that. Personally, they're all strong schools but I'd definitely do Woodlin. Just keep in mind that they're going through modernization right now, though. |
They're scheduled to be back on site in the new building in Fall 2023. |
| Sligo is a well-run school but Sligo has a really weak and ineffective administration right now. The school is finally being torn down and rebuilt. This means bussing to Rockville for 1.5 years. Then, the new school is supposed to open. |
| Sorry I meant to say WOODLIN has an ineffective administration. Sligo has excellent communication with parents and is well-run. I’m very unhappy with Woodlin. |
| And comment about school being rebuilt is about Woodlin. I’d like to retract the 16:57 comment as is written in a confusing way. |
| We’ve loved Flora Singer. The admin, community, teachers, and PTA are all great. We’re also very happy with Sligo. |
| OP, you might also look at Glen Haven. We love it there and the school administration is excellent. |
|
Sligo Creek has a very active and involved parent community, and we've been thrilled with the after-care program -- which is important if you plan to use it!
Overall, I find communication from the school lacking. One of our kids has had a great year, the other so-so due to their specific classroom teachers. Like one PP said, a lot of a kid's experience in early elementary comes down to their teacher, which is impossible to predict/make decisions on. |
