What type of wood is generally used for kitchen cabinets?

About to embark on a kitchen and bath renovation and realize I know nothing about cabinetry! Our current "cabinets" - likely installed in the 1980's -- are super cheap and literally falling apart. We would like to replace with sturdy, real wood cabinets. Would love to hear about others' experiences with different types of wood cabinets. Maple? Oak? Pine? What has worked well for you and why? Thank you!

Plywood box, whatever you want on front. (Maple, cherry, oak, etc.)

Some kind of stain if you appreciate natural beauty. Paint them white if you’re monsters.

Don’t fall for particle board or mdf anything; there’s a reason it’s cheaper.

Lots of different ndsz depending on what you like. Agree, skip the mdf or plywood.
