The Fold London PSA

Like a ton of people on this site, i've been struggling to find professional clothes for going back to work. This was a probably before covid; now it's an impossibility.....

Anyhow, someone on here recommended The Fold London, and i loved the stuff online. It's pricy and shipping from the UK, so i figured i would just drop a fortune on a bunch of stuff and then send stuff back if it didn't work. Basically, buy as much as i would have tried on in the store. I got around $4000 of stuff, and just want to say that it's all really nice and i would highly recommend.

Sizing is quite small. I'm a 0/2 in the US, a 2/4 in Boden - but i ordered everything in Size 4 from the Fold and the tops and dresses are all too small - like either couldn't get them on or if i did, they fit "very well" but not $500 office dress appropriate. The pants oddly fit fine in Size 4. That's weird because I typically need a larger size on pants than my tops.

Anyhow, i sent about 75% of it back, and of those returns, i got about half exchanged into a larger size. Returns were easy, and free if you use DHL. The return was received 3 days later in the UK, and i was refunded a week later without any issues. The larger sizes of stuff that got sent to me *could* use a little tailoring, but probably not really necessary. And the dresses (like most UK brands) definitely need to be hemmed. But i feel like i just spent $2000 and created (from scratch) a full professional wardrobe for conferences and client meetings, that is extremely appropriate for a senior professional in her 40s....

Just putting it out there because i've heard it mentioned a couple times on dcum, but not consistently.

I wore a dress from The Fold to a mediation today. I love their clothes!

I’ve been shopping there for several years, and can report that the clothing holds up very nicely. Worth the investment in my opinion.

Wow, thanks for the review. I wasn't sure about spending that much money but sounds like I should give it a try. I'm ready for a capsule wardrobe when returning to the office.

You ordered a British size 4? You may know this (?), but that's a US size 0. Obviously brands vary, so I guess Boden runs big (IDK, I only have one thrifted dress by them), but generally you'd need to order at least a 4 UK, more safely a 6. I am a 6 in US designers, sometimes a 4, and I just bought a Hobbs London coat in a 10 UK that fits perfectly.

Generally it's +4 for your British size, +30 ish for your French size and +36 for your Italian.

NP. Boden USA uses American sizing.

I’m a 0/XS in US brands and a 6 in UK brands

OP here. No I ordered the fold size 4 us (size 8 uk) and it was too small. I used their size/measurements chart and read reviews that they were true to size. But my experience is that it fit very small. The dresses were tugging across my thighs, the tops were tight across the back and showed the impression of bra straps. One dress I literally could not get over my head.

I also highly recommend and agree returns are very very easy and fast. They have a distributor in the US. It is apparent they are worried people are concerned about this so make it extra easy

OP I'd love to hear more about the fit. What height and body types do you think their clothes fit best? the clothes on their website look gorgeous!

Their clothes look nice but I just personally can’t handle so many folds. Apt name for sure. But they are like origami clothes

Their clothes are really beautiful and well made, but they are just not flattering on me. I am a US size 4, 5’7” with a large bust. The draping in their tops and dresses looks frumpy on me. Agree with the OP about sizing- I also needed to order a UK size 10/US size 6.

I’m OP. I’m 5 4 and pretty standard waspy small but athletic body frame (with some bust and a waist). I’d say their clothes are definitely not made for plus size or larger women (their clothes don’t come in larger sizes - and the size 6 I had to order is in the middle of their sizes even though I’m a 0/2 in the US!). All the rouching on the tops and dresses is good for small busts, but I’m not totally filling out the rouching so there is room for larger busts. I’d say that other than the bust lines, the tops and dresses and not designed to hide imperfections - they have darting and true waists etc.

I have pretty meaty thighs relative to my body but the pants were surprisingly generous (not tight on the thighs and have a very discreet elastic on the waistband! Designed for women who work and travel and don’t have time to be uncomfortable). As a consequence, the pants were a little less trendy looking and a bit more like classic “trousers” which is fine.

Like a lot of uk brands, the dresses are long so probably work better for taller women. And I find the waist sits at an appropriate place for my long torso- unlike a lot of us brands that skimp on fabric and make high waists to save money.

In short this is definitely a brand for average to taller height women who are very small to large - but large meaning curvier, bigger bones but still in good shape with a natural waist etc.

The folds are often placed in a way to be flattering. Create a waist or vertical lines.

Definitely smaller sizes. Ordered a dress and it was lost. Horrible customer service. Won't order again.
