Minor discipline referral and the student ended up getting a warning by the principal, does it go to the student record? in PWCS |
I'm not sure (also a pwcs parent)
However, i do know that when the student goes to apply to college, many college applications will ask if there has ever been any disciplinary measures. What grade is your student in? |
8th |
I have not heard of one college that asks for something in the manner in which you put it. The common app does as if the student has been suspended from school [u]while in high school. |
My understanding is that it would be illegal for a public school to share a discipline record or a special education record with ANYONE without the consent of the parents, or the student once they turn 18. I'm not sure about private schools.
That said, I've heard of other students anonymously sharing discipline info with colleges if they're upset with the student who committed the infraction. I've also heard of colleges finding out about things students do through social media. |
That is true for any educational record (other than what is called directory information). The parent or adult student would have to sign off on sending anything, including a transcript. |
A formal discipline incident is on the child’s “record.” It is in parent vue, from grammar school, permanently. I do not think it goes on a college transcript, though. |
No. In public, it won't go on the record unless it's a suspension or expulsion.
Detentions or principal referral, no. |
Talked to the AP it stays there for 5 years. Check how old the oldest discipline incident is |
If it does get sent to the college, find a good attorney. |
Some do about while in HS. Naval Academy, VMI, Air Force Academy. . . |
Uh, but kids lie on social media. |
The common app asks about high school disciplinary actions and felony convictions, not 8th grade. I don’t know about your school district, but MCPS policy is to decline to answer that question (on the GC form). The stated reason is that disciplinary actions disproportionately affect black children (eg white children wouldn’t have been punished for same infraction). In reality, some white kids are getting away with serious offenses (think sexual assault). I know of one instance where a kid’s disciplinary and police record was sent to the schools he applied to by a third party. The kid was denied from all the schools but one. Then rescinded from that one school when his record was sent there. He enrolled in another school and was expelled for another assault. |
When you apply to college student has to waive their privacy right so the school can send transcripts, recommendations, and records. |
