give me your best snacks

Anonymous
We are going on vacation this next week, and I want several snacks on hand so that we do not have to stop for food all the time. I want protein-based snacks, in particular. Typically, I have string cheese, hard-boiled eggs, peanut butter and apple, trail mix. I also often pack bean/cheese/salsa/avocado burritos. I don't really have access to a fridge this time, so I'm feeling stuck.

Help? Or even low-sugar snacks? What are your favorite things to bring for snacking that are not just plain old junk food?

We just don't snack incessantly and then enjoy vacation food indulgently.

If you do need a snack, I like multi-grain crackers and parmesan crisps and clementines.

I just bring a bag of clementines, small apples, bunch of banana, some Trader Joe’s fiber bars. That’s it. You are just sitting there. You stop for meals. It isn’t as if you need to be constantly snacking from all the energy you are burning staring out the window

Cuties, peanut butter pretzels, almonds/mixed nuts, bananas, dried fruits (not fruit leather).

I like the single serve olive packets, and the new single serve artichoke packets at Trader Joe’s are delicious. Then I pack up whatever fruit we have left in the fridge, some protein bars, macadamia nuts and peanut butter pretzels. We take 10 hour road trips and food options are limited, so it’s nice to have a good snack selection.

Bumblebee Snack Packs (My personal favorite is the tuna salad)
Ritz bits
Jerky - Krave is expensive but really good. (We like the black cherry pork.)
Summer sausage doesn't need refrigeration until cut
Similarly, you can get shelf-stable pepperoni/turkey pepperoni that only needs refrigeration after opening.
Viena sausages
Ready to drink Carnation instant breakfast

Not protein based, but for a change of pace/balance, you might consider:
Del Monte Veggieful bowls (I like the roasted red pepper quinoa bowls.)
V8
Fruit Cups
Trail Mix/dried fruit
Skinny Pop or Smart Food white cheddar popcorn
Seedless white grapes

bean based chips have more proteins. a variety of chips is usually fun to try.

You can bring a cooler and put ice in there for the cheese and maybe yogurt.
