DD will be doing K next year in private school and then move to public in 1st grade. Do I need to do anything with the public school? No idea if there is any tracking or law in MD that kids need to register and then decline public K. Any idea when or how I register her for first grade when the time comes? |
No need to do anything now. April-May are the time of year schools begin kindergarten orientations and registrations, so next year around this time you might want to contact the school and ask about 1st grade registration. |
Yes, agree with PP. The schools like to know as early as they can of future registrations, so that they can know future enrollment numbers and plan ahead. Let them know as early as January if you're sure your child will be attending. |
There is a form you need to fill out to let the school/county know that you are not sending your child to public K. You can find it on the MCPS website or call your home school & they can get it to you. |
PP, can you provide any further information about this form? I looked on the MCPS website and found an "EXEMPTION TO KINDERGARTEN ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT" form, which allows a one-year exemption due to "immaturity" or because the child will be attending a childcare center(?). But I can't find a form that would do what the OP asked. Thanks! |
