Suggestions appreciated. I am looking for someone who is also friendly. I’ve seen several podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons for a bunch of issues in both feet including plantar fascitis and broken bones, and I need someone that is excellent and just as important, nice. |
My physiatrist referred me to Dr. Franklin Polun. I have not had surgery with him, so I can't speak to that, but I appreciated that although he is a surgeon he did not rush to suggest surgery, and in fact advised against it. Passing on these pros and cons in case you get other recommendations for him.
Pros: - He is very nice. Warm, cheerful, funny. - In the course of three visits, I got the imaging, diagnosis, and advice I needed, within the limits of what a podiatrist can do. Cons: - For all his warmth, I'm not sure he's a great listener. I did eventually get answers to all my questions, but he did not take in a complex history all at once. I did NOT feel rushed as in "hurry up and get out of my office," but I did feel like *he* was rushing from patient to patient and not taking time to breathe and read up between appointments. - I saw him in his Sibley office, where he sees patients one day a week, and he was constantly running way behind. If you see him, I might try his Potomac office where he doesn't have to share space. But he may just be chronically too busy. |
I really liked Dr. Footer in the Maryland suburbs. He also has another doctor in his practice Dr Assilli, who I liked. Both good listeners and competent. |
I believe Dr. Footer is retired, but this practice (Shady Grove Podiatry) is very good. |
Highly recommend Dr. Ben Stein in DC. He really seems to know his stuff and has an excellent bedside manner. |
Dr. David Pontell. He treated my father for significant foot issues related to diabetes and kidney disease. I found Dr. Pontell to be very kind, as well as knowledgeable. |
Joel Morse at Foxhall Podiatry. He's very knowledgeable - helped me with something that was bothering my daughter on her foot for a long time & he's very nice. |
Wait, Dr. Footer is a foot doctor? |
It sounds like podiatrists, as a group, are nice docs? |
This MUST be a joke!!! |
We like Dr. Paul Cannon in Falls Church. |
He really is. I saw him many years ago and so did a relative. Really great doctor. |
Plus one. |
I second Ben Stein! Reconstructed my daughter’s foot years ago. Excellent bedside manner and very responsive and available post surgery. I was not a fan of Dr Polun, we consulted him as well. |
Dr. Polun should not be allowed to practice medicine. I’m sure he’s done tons of successful surgeries - but there have also been a couple which have caused permanent damage to his patients and altered their lives forever. When I’m choosing a doc, a couple mistakes is a couple too many.
I hope you find a great doc, OP. |
