Opinions about Julie Bowen’s “Quitters” podcast?

The Modern Family actor has a new podcast, ostensibly about quitting things and how that sometimes can make your life better.

I listened to the first episode and part of the second. I couldn’t get through anymore than that.

In the first episode she talks about how she “quit” an eating disorder as a teenager and now is “quitting” not talking about personally revealing things like that. I applaud her for getting through something so hard (although there have been plenty of reports over the last 10 years that she still has eating issues), but in the podcast she sounds kind of manic and self-absorbed. It’s also not clear to me why she is paired with her co-host. In some ways he seems more polished than she does at the hosting aspect of this gig, but his near-constant flattery of her seems to highlight the star imbalance between the two.

I really wanted to like this more, as I think Bowen was terrific on Modern Family and before that I enjoyed her work on the show “Ed”. Instead, this seems to be a case of an actor who is less interesting (and more off-putting) in real life than the characters she plays on TV.

I may give the podcast one more try. Beyond that, I’ll probably just stick to watching her on TV.

meh don’t like her. She is a know it all. She used to make fun of people with nannie’s and then admitted she had to get one. She also would go on and on about how people don’t stay married and then got divorced. Whatever. She is a good actress and I will watch her stuff but tune out to the rest.

It's really obvious that she has/had an eating disorder. She looked very thin on tv, which means she's actually thinner in real life. Plus, you can typically spot women with eating disorders by how unhealthy their hair looks: thin, frizzy and dry.

I'm not surprised she sounds manic.

Here's the thing: most people should not have a podcast. Very few people are interesting enough to have one.
