My child plays futsal in the First Touch Futsal League. I'm not sure what the surface of the gym floor at the NVCC gymnasium is, but it seems quite slippery for the kids in their futsal shoes (way beyond other places that my child has played). I'm wondering if it might be better to try regular sneakers, or if that would make the situation worse. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

When we played there, the floors were just dirty/dusty, which led to the slippery surface. Having a parent or two push around a dust mop before matches/at halftime helps, as does having something damp to wipe of shoes with.

Yes keep a damp towel on the floor by the bench. Have kids step on the towel before entering the game. Works for slippery basketball floors too

Great idea, going to try this.

That facility and league are a joke. 1/2 sized courts, lazy & inept referees, and terrible quality of competition. Wouldn't expect anything less than slippery courts.

What league would you recommend then? St James courts are nicer but competition is meh.

We had issues with a slippery floor at Gesher a few weeks ago, but this week, it seemed better. We saw that someone was cleaning the floor between games, so I guess that helped.

I would suggest getting your kid into one of the futsal academies around here (e.g., Alexandria, TSJFA, GFR Futsal Academy) and focus on tournament play. This way they GK get actual futsal training and then better facilities, refs & competition. United Sportsplex in Manassas hosts several tournaments locally and then you have State Cup at STJ, USYF regionals in Richmond and USFF Regionals in Atlantic City. Way better futsal experience overall IMHO.

This guy is spot on. Also not all futsal shoes are created equal, some have soles that are a bit too hard for the right amount of grip on poor surfaces (but work fine on pristine ones, or *gasp* an actual futsal surface.) but aside from that do what Nova said.

I agree. We did the damp wipes and sticky mat. My kids always used Nike Tiempo Futsal shoes, they seem to have better support and better grip than other shoes.
