Does cyber security need a student who is good at math and science? What if terrible at both? |
Math is important. Can they code? |
Probably not the best major choice for that student. Do they have experience programming? |
Cyber security will have a ton of math and science requirements. They’ll be weeded right out when they take calc the first semester.
Pick another major. |
If they're interested in it b/c they want to stop crime, there are many other ways to do this that don't require lots of math. I agree with the others that CS is not the best path. |
Criminology is a subfield of sociology. Psychology might also be useful at a place like the FBI. |
There are also computer majors that are less math-heavy. We went to an Open House at Drexel and they explained the differences among their computer majors. Watch this for the explanation:

Consider a cyber operations BS. University of Arizona has one. |
Stop deciding for your DC what to major in. I am sure your child has other interests. |
If he is tall, good-looking, white, and a US Citizen who can obtain a high clearance all he has to be able to do is watch cat videos. |
This sounds like a good Netflix show. You should write it up. |
+1 OP here, I get it. Student HFA, so trying to help. |
Terrible at math is an interesting way of saying unintelligent |
Oh, the irony! |
I think he can be successful if it is his idea.
Let him get two years degree from Montgomery community college and hands on experience. |
