Signs someone grew up rich

How can you tell if someone grew up rich?

19 times out of 20, they aren't very motivated to increase their income. Sometimes they have vaguely do-gooder jobs, sometimes just low paying vanity jobs. Unusual hobbies and sports (like one rich kid I know is a part time cricket referee, lol).

Good teeth
Good schools
Do rich people sports-- tennis, golf, sailing, lacrosse, crew, squash, fencing, horseback riding
Went to summer camp in Maine or something similar
Took exciting vacations
Have a summer house

Good skin, hair, teeth
Thin
Private schools
Graduate degree
Vocabulary and grammar
Knowledgable about culture, arts, literature, food, current events
Well traveled

The above are not guarantees, of course, and there are always exceptions but generally if you have all of the above, it's a pretty good indication that this person is not (willingly) poor and likely from higher socio-economic classes.

Impeccable table manners.

You really can’t tell who grew up “rich” but you can tell who grew up with class.

I agree with the vocabulary and grammar. This is what you get with elite private schools.

Lot's of travel.

I find folks who are comfortable interacting with “help” and are super kind and engaging with folks from many different walks of life were brought up with a certain level of wealth as being good at a cocktail party and comfortable with one’s owns charms is super important

They expect people to treat them well even if they don’t treat people well.

Every time.

(This doesn’t apply to people who grew up rich and who treat people well. Who do exist. I’m friends with some! I don’t hate rich people. I’ve just found that if you meet someone who is rude and expects others to be unfailingly deferential, they without fail grew up rich.)

I feel like the last two are in direct opposition to each other lol

I grew up sailing and camped in Maine, but that’s because I grew up in Maine and a sunfish counts as sailing

They lack a fundamental understanding of how the world works for the rest of us.

This. I grew up with help and am close with my housekeeper and yard man (they are related to each other, actually). I do not give their number out to most people (if they say they have not even had a housekeeper but are considering it--hell no) because I think most people treat help poorly (especially new money).

They ask questions like “Should I buy a first class or economy ticket for my teen’s nanny when we go on vacation?”
