Does your dog behave differently after boarding?

Anonymous
We picked our pup from the sitters after 8 days. The sitter sent regular pics and she seemed to be fine. However, after coming back home she seems different-quieter and not as playful. Sitter told me she had an upset tummy that morning which I also noticed but didn’t make a big deal out of it. Any experience?

Our dog is always more subdued when she comes from the boarder. She is pretty hyper and naughty usually so we always jokes that she’s on her best behavior so we don’t leave her again.

We picked ours up after 5 days and the morning we were supposed to pick up they contacted us that she had diarrhea. The vet tech was pretty sure it was stress related. A few days being back home with us and she's back to normal.

My dog is tired and thirsty when he gets home.

Yes, our dog is always more quiet and sleeps a lot when returning from sitters. I’m assuming because it is more active with other dogs there and maybe she is more tired out. But when we take her there, she goes willingly and wags her tail, so she doesn’t seem to have bad associations.

Totally normal!

My pups are exhausted when they return home from boarding, and the younger of the two is definitely more subdued for about 3 days or so.

It wouldn’t last, OP. Enjoy the calmness. 😁😁

(The diarrhea is likely from the change; give your dog pumpkin to firm it up.)

We've boarded our dog twice and both times he came back with diarrhea although they fed the same food as he eats at home. It must be stress related. Since then we get a house sitter if our adult son can't take care of the dog.

Yep. Pups are always exhausted and sleep a lot for a few days.

Loose stools are not unusual, even when eating the same food. We board our dogs at our vet, and they say it’s from the stress. There will call us and give them medication if it seems worse than usual.

Yes. Realized it was stress and now have someone stay at my house. My dog is much happier.

I think the boarding facility was forcing him to walk when he didn’t want to and crating him when I specifically asked for a suite

Yes exhausted.

OP here: thank you all! I am giving her chicken and rice, hope it resolved soon!
