If you own a Balsam Hill Christmas tree...

..have you add any issues with the lights? We have a beautiful flip-tree that we bought in 2017 but the lights (incandescent, single-color version) are routinely failing for us in entire strands, which I thought wasn't supposed to happen. This year when we put up the tree, three separate strands were out. I don't really want to supplement with non-Balsam lights because it becomes extremely difficult to find an exact match in color, brightness, etc. but it takes Balsam forever to ship out replacements.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do? I love everything else about the tree but the light thing is extremely frustrating.

Yes, we had the exact same issue and I think we also bought ours in around 2017. Last year we just added our own strands of lights, but this year I just packed it up and gave it away after I set it up and realized there was only like 1, maybe 2 strands of lights working.
Bought a new one from elsewhere.

We had such a terrible customer service experience with BH when buying the original tree that we want nothing to do with them going forward!!

Ours is the same age, I think, but no issues yet.

Wow, that's really disappointing.

Yes. Ours had a three year warranty and of course, the fourth Christmas half the lights were out. We have supplemented with other lights (we do a mixture of light sizes anyway so it's not as noticeable). If you look online there are lots of reviews complaining about it, we will never buy a BH tree again.

That said, you can also experiment with the LightKeeper Pro, which helped us detect where the issues were (some were fixable, some not).

This is why I hate pre lit trees. They are great until they don’t light!

I don't understand how so many lights can burn out in the off-season when the tree isn't even being used. We put it away in January and everything seems fine, but when we plug it in again for the first time 11 months later a bunch of stuff doesn't work.

Oh no, I’m just bought one this year. It looks fabulous and didn’t think it would fail so soon. It was expensive!

We’ve had 2 trees. Lights fail too soon. They’ll send replacement lights. But it’s not really a substitute for a prelit tree.

Do they send replacement lights for free?

Yes, it was. That said, they really do look great and the set-up is a breeze. Best tree we've ever owned apart from the lighting issue.

We've always had live trees but this year we purchased a Balsam Hill tree. Service was outstanding. We were shocked at how quickly they processed the purchase - we ordered the tree and it arrived 1.5 days later. At first I tried to find a used one because we weren't sure we really wanted artificial, but almost all B.H. listings were for trees with lights, and listings stated lights were not working. We purchased an unlit tree.

The problem with lights is universal. We have to purchase new lights almost every year for our live trees.

I wish I knew of an American or European brand of lights that we could purchase. The made in China lights are the problem - they're crap.

Were you still under warranty at the time? Ours was purchased in 2017, so I think we're one year outside the three-year limit.

I bought an unlit BH tree for this reason. As PP above said, the lights are an issue with all prelit trees.
