Does anyone know what constiutes a hardship when applying for a change of school assignment in MCPS?

Just trying to find out what the county determines is or is not a hardship when requesting an out of bounds school? Thanks

IME, if you have to ask then it's not hardship-- people get turned down for things that seem like reasonable requests to me. That said, some people on this board have said it depends on the principals and relative overcrowding of the schools involved (and others have said that is in the past and it is generally harder now).

The only hardship exceptions I know of are parents who work near the out-of-boundary school and far from the school where they live.

I work right next door to an out-of-boundary school. We were denied the transfer. It sure would have made my life easier!

We were looking to move, and one of the neighborhoods we looked at was North Chevy Chase. My son would have started there in 6th and then move to Westland at 7th, which I thought was too many moves for a kind of shy kid. I asked if he could get a "hardship" and go to Westland for 6th, and the principal said it was the kind of situation that could go either way.

In the end we found a place in a neighborhood where the elementary stops at 5th so it's not an issue.
