Spinoff on math sequencing: best path through MS after ES compacted?

Anonymous
Assuming that a student in Math 4-5 is placed in Math 5-6 for the following year, what can/should that student take in grade 6 when they start MS? I'm assuming that the same pathway isn't right for all students: what might work for a very STEM-focused kid with high math aptitude might not necessarily be the best plan for a kid who is more interested in other things and happens to just be competent at math. What is expected/required, and what do people recommend?
